Bullets reach FAM Women’s Championship semis

Nyasa Big Bullets Women have clinched a semi-final place in the FAM Women’s Championship after registering back-to-back victories over Moyale Sisters and Skippers in their third and final Group A clashes at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Bullets opened their campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Ntopwa.

This result meant the ladies had all to play for in Lilongwe, knowing anything rather than victories in the two matches would mean bowing out of the tournament.

And the Maggie Chombo side did exactly what was required for them to do when they recorded two important victories over two crucial oppositions.

In the first game, Bullets Women got the better of Moyale Barracks with a hard-fought 2-1 victory through Zainab Kapanda and Vanessa Chikupira’s strikes to have four points in two games.

However, the battle for a semi-final place was far from over as Skippers FC stood in the way for the Blantyre-based ladies.

They had to overcome a very stubborn side, a team which has been dominating women’s football in Malawi with Lyna James’ first-half goal to proceed to the last four of the competition.

Bullets Women will meet Group B winner between Ascent Academy and DD Sunshine for a place in the final at a venue yet to be announced by the Football Association of Malawi.
