Bullets players on international duty

Four of our players featured for Malawi in their goalless draw against Burundi in the 2025 Morocco AFCON Qualifiers on Thursday evening in Ivory Coast, while two others remained on the bench.

It was a standout moment for Yankho Singo, who marked his Flames debut with a solid 60-minute performance.

Alick Lungu also had an impressive match, playing a key role as several others contributed significantly.

Here’s a look at the Bullets players on international duty with the Flames.

On his Malawi debut, the midfielder, who has been incredible at the club this season, enjoyed an hour of international football before being subbed off for his Bullets teammate Lloyd Aaron.

Partnered with captain John Banda in the midfield role, the 24-year-old marshalled the centre quite steadily, being simple and neat on the ball.

Given the way he has performed on his first outing with the national team, he may well be braced for more minutes with the Flames.

Lloyd Aaron

Came on for the remaining half an hour of the game, the midfielder played a significant part in Malawi’s late resurgence in their penultimate AFCON Qualifier.

After Aaron’s introduction, Kalisto Pasuwa’s Flames improved in ball possession and created their best chances in the tie. He made the team even better.

Alick Lungu

One of the brightest Malawi players on the night. The left-back put up a substantial performance on Thursday, allowing no way-through on the left-hand side.

It was Lungu’s first 90 minutes with the Flames after a lengthy time on the sidelines and one that the young Bullets wingback may use to assure the fans that he is way past his injury woes.

Gomezgani Chirwa

The full-back came in late in the tie and adapted well to the burning battle of the encounter. He had moments when he reminded the fans that he still got a sound mirage to cover the most distance for the team.

Chirwa was tasked with ensuring the Flames didn’t concede a goal while also securing the opportunity to take something from the match—and he accomplished both objectives effectively.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Malawi exchanged passes in the Burundi half, which ended with Gomezgani Chirwa setting up Gabadinho Mhango, but the South Africa-based striker’s bicycle kick went off target.

Our goalkeeper, Richard Chimbamba, got his senior Flames call-up for the first time but couldn’t get involved.

Making a return to the national team, our centre-back Nickson Nyasulu was also benched for the entire match.

Malawi, sitting bottom of Group L, will wrap up the campaign with a home tie against Burkina Faso on Monday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
