FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women maintained their unbeaten run this season following a 12-0 thrashing of FOMO Women in the Goshen-FAM Women’s Football Southern Region League at Mulanje Park on Saturday.

What happened

The game commenced with a cautious approach from both teams, each probing the opposition’s defence in search of vulnerabilities.

In the 12th minute, the hosts thought they had broken the deadlock, but their celebrations were short-lived as the offside flag had gone up.

It wasn’t long before Bullets’ burst into life, unleashing a maelstrom of attacking flair that would leave their opponents reeling.

The deadlock was shattered in the 22nd minute, courtesy of a sublime strike from Vanessa Issa, who clinically dispatched a precision pass from Tendai Sani.

This breakthrough ignited a frenzy of scoring, with Sani doubling the lead just three minutes later, thanks to an assist from the irrepressible Issa.

As the half wore on, Maggie Chombo’s girls continued to assert their dominance, with Zainab Kapanda scoring her first goal since returning from injury, courtesy of another assist from the talismanic Issa.

Bullets Women boasted a commanding 3-0 lead when the opening half came to a close.

The second half witnessed a continuation of the one-way traffic, with Chombo’s side ruthlessly exploiting their opponents’ defensive frailties.

Issa continued from where she had stopped before the recess when she found the back of the net again three minutes after the break, from Matamando Makawa’s beautiful pass, 4-0.

Sani was on target again in the 50th minute, completing her brace of the day.

Issa completed the first hat trick of the day two minutes later, making good use of Makawa’s pass.

Makawa registered her third assist before Sani completed the second hat trick of the day.

Bullets were eight goals up a minute after the hour mark when Kapanda made a cool finish, connecting Sani’s brilliant pass, and from a provider, the midfielder followed up with our ninth goal at 68 minutes when she received a pass from Kapanda.

Issa was back on the scoresheet in the 78th minute when she scored her fourth and tenth for the Bullets ladies.

The introduction of fresh legs from the bench only served to further energize our attack, with substitute Ioulia Yiannakis registering her name on the scoresheet, beating Ruth Khumbanyiwa far post.

Carol Mlezo rounded off the scoring, as Maule ladies romped to a 12-0 victory over the hosts FOMO.

What it means

Following this comfortable win against FOMO Women, Chombo’s girls have collected 40 points from 14 games and have extended their stay at the summit of the league table.

Chombo’s post-match reaction

“We are absolutely delighted with the result. The girls played exceptionally well, the pitch was not conducive to our style of play, but we adjusted our strategy and still managed to dominate the game. We’ve been working tirelessly on our attacking play, and it’s wonderful to see the girls executing our game plan with such precision and panache. We’ll continue to work hard, refine our strategy, and push ourselves to new heights.”
