Preview: Bullets host Moyale in return to league action

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to TNM Super League action with a midweek home fixture against Moyale Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Having been dislodged from the summit of the standings by rivals Mighty Wanderers over the weekend, Peter Mponda’s side will be targeting all three points to reclaim top spot.

They will, however, need to overcome a Moyale Barracks outfit that has proven tricky in recent seasons, going unbeaten against Bullets in their last two league meetings.

FORM GUIDE

This match comes just four days after Bullets booked a place in the 2025 Airtel Top 8 final with a 2-1 win over Karonga United at Bingu National Stadium.

That result followed a 2-0 league victory over Mighty Tigers, helping The People’s Team bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Wanderers before the international break.

Bullets are currently second on the log with 21 points from eight games, having scored a league-high 22 goals, conceded just two, and kept six clean sheets.

Moyale Barracks, meanwhile, are coming off their first defeat of the season—a 2-0 loss to Mzuzu City Hammers. They had previously drawn 0-0 with Chitipa United. The Mzuzu-based side sits sixth with 13 points from eight matches, having scored six goals and conceded four.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Since 2008, this fixture has largely favoured Bullets—especially at Kamuzu Stadium, where Moyale have not registered a win in over two decades.

In 31 Super League meetings, Bullets have recorded 19 wins, nine draws and just three defeats, scoring 50 goals and conceding 20.

The People’s Team’s most dominant result came in the 2020/21 season, with a 5-1 thumping of Moyale at home. Moyale’s last victory was also in 2020/21—a 1-0 win in Mzuzu through Lloyd Njaliwa, who now plays in Mozambique.

Last season, both encounters ended in draws—goalless in Mzuzu and 1-1 in Blantyre.

TEAM NEWS

There are no new injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s match.

Peter Banda, who was withdrawn in the first half of Saturday’s Airtel Top 8 semifinal, is fit and available for selection.

Chrispin Mapemba remains the only absentee, still recovering from a long-term injury.

FROM THE COACH

“Moyale are a strong side. Yes, their recent results haven’t gone their way, but they remain a solid team. We’re playing at Kamuzu Stadium and our goal is to dominate and win. The players are hungry. You could see that from how we handled Karonga—it wasn’t an easy game, but we dug deep and got the result. That mentality is what’s driving us forward.” — Peter Mponda, Head Coach.
