FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda has confirmed that newly signed defender Khumbo Banda could be in line to make his debut against Karonga United this Sunday, provided his registration is completed in time.
Banda, who joined The People’s Team from Dedza Dynamos during the mid-season transfer window, has been training with the squad this week at Kamuzu Stadium.
Addressing the media during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Mponda admitted that while it might be “too early” to throw the defender straight into action, there is a possibility of him featuring against Karonga, depending on how the final two training sessions go.
“I think it’s too early to feature him, but we still have two training sessions to assess him to see if he is fitting what we want,” said Mponda.
“When we wanted him, we knew how good he is and what he would bring to us, so the chances are there that we can feature him or give him more time to adapt to our sessions. But like I said earlier, he is a good player and we know what he can bring to the team.”
The 27-year-old becomes Bullets’ first signing in the ongoing transfer window and is expected to bolster Mponda’s defensive options as the champions enter the second half of the TNM Super League campaign.
Should Banda be cleared by the Super League of Malawi in time, Sunday’s match against Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium could mark his first official appearance in red and white.
