Four Bullets named in Malawi U20 squad for World Cup Qualifiers

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women will once again have a strong presence on the national stage, with four of our players named in the provisional Malawi Under-20 Women’s National Team camp squad ahead of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Preliminary Round qualifiers against South Sudan this month.

Head coach Maggie Chombo, who also leads Bullets Women, has called up 29 players to report for camp in Blantyre starting 13 September 2025 as preparations begin for the crucial double-header.

Among those selected are defender Asimenye Mwanyongo, midfielder Chikondi Mgodi, and forwards Vanessa Issa and Effa Msukwa, all earning recognition for their impressive contributions with the Maule Ladies.

This provisional selection continues Bullets Women’s growing influence at national level, following recent senior call-ups where six of our stars were included in the Malawi squad for friendlies against Lesotho.

Malawi will begin their campaign away in Juba on 23 September, before hosting the second leg on Friday, 26 September.

However, following an agreement between the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and the South Sudan Football Federation, both matches will be played in Juba due to a congested schedule at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, which is booked for CAF interclub fixtures.

The winner of the tie will advance to face Guinea Bissau or Congo in the next qualifying round.

Chombo has recalled fifteen players from the squad that faced the Central African Republic in May, while also bringing in several new faces for assessment in camp.

For Bullets Women, having four players included in the provisional squad is another proud moment. Mwanyongo and Mgodi will provide stability in defense and midfield, while Issa and Msukwa bring firepower in attack.

The call-ups highlight the Maule Ladies’ role as a vital talent pipeline for Malawi women’s football and provide inspiration for the rest of the squad as the NBM Women’s Premiership season continues.
