We return to TNM Super League action with another crucial away fixture, facing Blue Eagles FC at Nankhaka Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
It’s a must-win match for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who are aiming to bounce back from consecutive defeats to Mighty Wanderers in the league and FDH Bank Cup.
The task won’t be easy — Eagles beat Bullets in the first round, and The People’s Team are winless in their last two visits to Nankhaka Stadium.
But whenever these two sides meet, sparks fly — expect intensity, quality, and entertainment.
FORM GUIDE
Before the recent derby setbacks, Peter Mponda’s men were in excellent form, winning eight straight matches across all competitions.
They eliminated Chilumba Barracks, The Boys, and Kamuzu Barracks to reach the FDH Bank Cup semifinals, while also registering league victories over Chitipa United, Songwe Border United, Dedza Dynamos, Silver Strikers, and Mafco FC.
That strong run was halted by Wanderers’ dominant 3-0 league win, Bullets’ heaviest derby loss in 15 years. A week later, Promise Kamwendo’s late strike saw Bullets exit the FDH Bank Cup in the semifinal stage.
Bullets are now second in the TNM Super League standings with 49 points from 21 games, two behind Wanderers, whose fixture against Ekhaya FC was abandoned in the 52nd minute on Wednesday due to heavy rain at Kamuzu Stadium.
A win on Thursday will take The People’s Team back to the summit with 52 points, one ahead of their city rivals.
Silver Strikers, who sit third, are on 40 points after being held to a goalless draw away to Goshen City Dedza Dynamos on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Blue Eagles are ninth with 31 points from 22 games, having bounced back from defeats to Civil Service United and Wanderers with a 2-1 victory over Ekhaya FC in their most recent outing.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Bullets and Blue Eagles have met 20 times in league competition since 2013, with The People’s Team holding the upper hand.
Bullets have recorded 10 wins, 7 draws, and 4 defeats, scoring 21 goals in the process.
Among the most memorable results are the 2013 double (2-0 and 3-2), a 1-0 away win in 2014, and a 4-0 home triumph in 2019. Eagles’ biggest victory came in 2015, when they won 3-0 at Nankhaka Stadium.
The sides drew both league fixtures in 2022 before Eagles’ relegation the following year.
In cup competitions, the clubs met in the 2024 FDH Bank Cup Final, which Eagles won 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw. Earlier this season, Eagles claimed a 1-0 first-round league win at Kamuzu Stadium through Laurent Banda’s late goal.
TEAM NEWS
There are no fresh injury concerns ahead of Thursday’s clash.
All players are available for selection, including Yankho Singo, who returned to full fitness last week.
With a full squad at his disposal, Peter Mponda will be looking for a sharp and determined response as Bullets push to reclaim top spot in the standings.
