Match Preview - FCB Nyasa Big Bullets visit Moyale for final Northen Region league match

Match Preview: Bullets ready to extend lead at Moyale

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets play their final away match in the Northern Region this Wednesday when they face Moyale Barracks in a midweek TNM Super League fixture at Mzuzu Stadium.

After Sunday’s 2-0 win over Karonga United, Peter Mponda’s side aim to protect their narrow top-table lead and build momentum for the final three league matches. Mighty Wanderers are close behind, making every point crucial.

FORM GUIDE

Bullets have won three of their last four matches, defeating Civil Service United 4-3, Kamuzu Barracks 2-0, and Karonga United 2-0. The only setback in that run was the 2-0 defeat away to Creck Sporting Club.

Despite that loss, Mponda’s men remain at the summit with 59 points from 26 games, having scored 54 goals and conceded 18.

Moyale’s recent form has been mixed. They beat Blue Eagles 2-1 away before suffering a 3-0 loss to Silver Strikers in Lilongwe. They then edged Ekhaya 2-1 but were defeated 3-0 by Civil Service United in their most recent outing.

The Mzuzu-based soldiers sit 11th with 33 points from 26 matches, scoring 24 goals and conceding 34.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Historically, this fixture has favoured Bullets. Dating back to 2008, Moyale have managed just one league victory over The People’s Team—a 1-0 win at Mzuzu Stadium in the second round of the 2021 season.

Bullets have scored 54 league goals against Moyale while conceding 20. In the last 14 meetings, they have recorded two wins, nine draws, and three defeats.

Last season, the first-round meeting in Mzuzu ended goalless before the two teams shared the spoils 1-1 at Kamuzu Stadium. Earlier this season, Bullets won the first-leg fixture 3-0 in Blantyre.

TEAM NEWS

Chrispin Mapemba and Blessings Mpokera remain sidelined through injuries.

All other players are available for selection, giving Peter Mponda more options as Bullets push to maintain their position at the top of the table.

MATCH OFFICIALS

The Super League of Malawi has appointed David Chinoko as the centre referee for Wednesday’s crucial fixture.

He will be assisted by Steve Nyirenda and Stammy Msukwa, with Mercy Kayira serving as fourth official. Mabvuto Msimuko has been assigned as the Match Assessor.

Chinoko will be officiating his 12th Bullets match, having already taken charge of two fixtures involving Bullets this season, both ending in 1-0 defeats to Mighty Wanderers.

Nyirenda handles his fifth Bullets match since 2023, most recently running the line during the 5-0 FDH Bank Cup win over Chilumba Barracks.

Msukwa has officiated two Bullets matches this season—the 2-0 win over Mzuzu City Hammers and the 2-0 victory against Chitipa United.

Kayira, one of Malawi’s most experienced female officials, has handled more than 10 Bullets fixtures in various competitions. She has overseen three Bullets matches this season.
