Goalkeeper Pilirani Mapira joins Bullets on two-year deal

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have completed the signing of goalkeeper Pilirani Mapira after the shot-stopper agreed to a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.

Mapira joins The People’s Team as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Silver Strikers.

Speaking to Bullets Media after completing his move, the experienced goalkeeper described joining the Malawian giants as a dream come true.

“I am very excited to play for Bullets. Every player wants to play for Bullets. It was my wish to play for this club and when they showed interest in me, I could not resist,” said the 28-year-old.

The new signing arrives with vast top-flight experience, having previously featured for Mzuzu City Hammers—formerly Ekwendeni Hammers—Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers.

Mapira believes he is ready to handle the expectations that come with representing a club of Bullets’ stature.

“The pressure will always be there because this is a winning team. It wins trophies every season and I want to be part of another successful campaign by helping the team win more trophies.

“For sure, pressure will always be there, but I am capable of adapting to this new environment.

“I will not say much for now. I will wait for the work to begin and let my performances speak for me. I want to win trophies here, play for the national team and enjoy every season with my new club.”

During his time at Silver Strikers, the goalkeeper lifted two FDH Bank Cup titles, the NBS Bank Charity Shield and the TNM Super League.

Mapira becomes the latest addition to Bullets ahead of the 2026/27 season, which kicks off on 18 March.

The People’s Team have already unveiled defender Emmanuel Kaunga, who joined as a free agent after leaving Silver Strikers, and former Mighty Wanderers defender Ahmad Kung’unde, who also arrived as a free agent.

Goalkeeper Maclean Mwale has joined from Karonga United, while striker Dastan Banda is also set to join the club after an agreement was reached with Civil Service United.

Now joining The People’s Team, Mapira brings valuable experience and a winning mentality as Bullets continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new campaign.
