FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Gilbert Chirwa on the touchline as his side drew 2-2 against Civil Service United

Reaction: Chirwa reflects on Bullets’ draw at Civil

Gilbert Chirwa offered a balanced assessment following FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ 2-2 draw against Civil Service United in the opening match of the 2026/27 FDH Bank Premiership at Civo Stadium.

The Bullets head coach acknowledged his side’s attacking promise but admitted there is room for improvement, particularly in managing the game after taking the lead twice.

“We led twice and they came back both times, but it was a good game overall. We tried different combinations, and some of the players are new in the team. I believe with time they will improve.”

Chirwa pointed to both attacking strengths and defensive lapses as key takeaways from the match.

“I think it’s about how we defend and how we attack. The team showed good combinations going forward, but we need to be more solid when we are leading. That’s something we will work on.”

The coach also highlighted the performances of debutants Pilirani Mapira, Misheck Billiat, Clever Kalambo and Dastan Banda, praising their contribution despite the result.

“Mapira made important saves, and Billiat, Kalambo and Dastan performed well. For players making their debut, it was a positive performance, and it gives us confidence going forward.”

Chirwa added that the display provides a solid platform to build on as the squad continues to gel.

“The overall performance was good, and we will keep improving as we go.”

Bullets sit third on the table after Matchweek 1, with Silver Strikers leading following a 2-0 win over Kamuzu Barracks.

Civil Service United occupy second place, while Goshen City Dedza Dynamos and Moyale Barracks are fourth and fifth respectively after playing out a goalless draw in Rumphi.

The fixture between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United did not take place following the venue impasse at Kamuzu Stadium, which was not approved by the Football Association of Malawi for failing to meet club licensing requirements.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Red Lions host Creck Sporting Club at Zomba Stadium, Blue Eagles face Ekhaya FC at Civo Stadium, while Masters FC take on Chitipa United at Bingu National Stadium to complete the Matchweek 1 fixtures.
