Yamikani Mologeni believes Bullets are building momentum after consecutive league victories, saying the work being done under new head coach Wedson Nyirenda is beginning to pay off.
Another accomplished display from Mologeni helped Bullets secure back-to-back FDH Bank Premiership victories, with the wing-back earning a second consecutive Player of the Match award for his influence at both ends of the pitch.
Operating from the right flank, Mologeni repeatedly unsettled the Masters FC defence with dangerous deliveries into the penalty area, creating a constant stream of goalscoring opportunities as Bullets dictated proceedings for long spells at Mpira Stadium.
Sharing his thoughts after Sunday’s victory, Mologeni said the players are already reaping the rewards of the work being done under the new Bullets boss, with consecutive league victories providing further evidence of the progress made after Bullets collected 10 points from their opening six league matches.
“Our focus has to remain on ourselves. We can’t afford to get distracted by what other teams are doing,” he told club media. “We have to keep collecting points because that’s how we’ll continue building momentum. It was a difficult start to the season, but we’re beginning to see the rewards of the work we’ve been putting in. Now we’re getting there.”
The Bullets Reserves graduate also reflected on his recent form, saying the recognition mirrors the confidence he has rediscovered in his game.
“I thank God for this award because it’s a reflection of the work I’ve been putting into my game. My confidence is coming back and I’m pleased with the level I’ve reached over the last two matches.
“Compared to previous seasons, I feel much better. I’m enjoying my football again, expressing myself on the pitch and playing with far more confidence.”
Despite dictating proceedings for long spells against Masters, Mologeni believes Bullets still have another level to reach by becoming more ruthless in the final third.
He says the responsibility now rests with both the players and the technical panel to ensure the team’s dominance is consistently reflected on the scoreboard.
“The only thing missing from our performance was converting more of the chances we created. I’m confident we’ll improve because the coach has already identified the areas we need to work on.
“As players, we also have to take responsibility. We’re creating enough opportunities to score more goals, so it’s about being more clinical when those chances come.”
A second successive Player of the Match award further underlined Mologeni’s growing influence as Bullets continue to gather momentum under Nyirenda.
“Winning this award again gives me confidence that I’m moving in the right direction. I’m grateful for the recognition, but the most important thing is continuing to contribute to the team’s success.”
He also paid tribute to the Bullets faithful, acknowledging the role they continue to play in the team’s progress.
“Our supporters were outstanding. Playing in front of them gives us an extra lift and pushes us to give everything on the pitch. We hope they’ll be back again on Saturday because they’re a huge part of what we’re building together.”
Bullets now turn their attention to Saturday’s FDH Bank Premiership meeting with Creck Sporting Club at Mpira Stadium, looking to build on the momentum generated over the past two league matches and continue the encouraging progress under Nyirenda.
