Benedetta Mkandawire and Lyna James could feature as the Scorchers begin Malawi’s debut TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Nigeria on Tuesday night.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women will have two players involved as Malawi take on defending champions Nigeria in their opening Group C match of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.
The Bullets Women pair are part of the Scorchers squad preparing for the country’s first appearance at Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.
The tournament got underway in Morocco on Sunday, with four matches already played before Group C action begins on Tuesday.
Lovemore Fazili’s Malawi, with Bullets Women head coach Maggie Chombo on the technical bench, open their maiden WAFCON campaign against defending champions Nigeria at 21:00.
Mkandawire has been with the national team throughout their preparations, while James joined the squad following a late call-up to increase Bullets Women’s representation at the tournament to two players.
After Tuesday night’s opener, Malawi will face Egypt before concluding the group stage against regional rivals Zambia.
