Yamikani Mologeni has credited teamwork and collective ambition for the consistency that has earned him three Player of the Match awards for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets this season.
The defender’s latest recognition followed another influential performance in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Karonga United, where he supplied the decisive delivery for Ephraim Kondowe before helping Bullets complete a second successive clean sheet.
His contribution at Karonga Stadium continued a campaign in which he has combined defensive reliability with an increasing influence in attacking areas.
Despite collecting another individual honour, Mologeni placed the emphasis firmly on the team effort required to secure maximum points from a demanding away assignment.
“First of all, I want to thank my teammates for the spirited performance that helped us win the match,” he told Bullets media.
“It was not an easy game. Karonga is a difficult place to come and get a result, so we are very happy to have won here.
“I’m also pleased to receive another award. It is always a good feeling to be recognised after such a difficult match.”
Mologeni’s decisive contribution arrived in the 38th minute when his inviting delivery found Kondowe, who applied a clinical finish to put Bullets ahead.
At the other end, the full-back formed part of a composed defensive unit that protected the advantage as Karonga attempted to find a route back into the contest.
The performance reflected the standards established before kick-off, with Mologeni revealing that the players had spoken at length about the importance of the assignment.
“We kept encouraging each other and reminding ourselves how important this match was,” he explained.
“We knew they would come at us strongly, but we also knew we needed a positive result. We are happy that we achieved what we came here for.”
That shared sense of responsibility also underpinned another disciplined defensive display.
Innocent Nyasulu dealt confidently with the hosts’ deliveries into the penalty area, while Mologeni, Blessings Mpokera, Emmanuel Kaunga and Prince Chiumia remained organised throughout the contest.
The clean sheet followed the previous weekend’s 2-0 victory over Chitipa United and meant Bullets had conceded only seven goals in 13 league matches in the first round—one of the strongest defensive records in the division.
With the two Airtel Top 8 quarter-final legs included, Nyirenda’s side have conceded nine goals in 15 matches across all competitions.
For Mologeni, those numbers underline the organisation and communication running through the defensive structure rather than the work of one department alone.
“We are well organised, from the goalkeeper to the defence. We work together and communicate well, and that has helped us remain solid,” he said.
“Keeping a clean sheet at Karonga Stadium is not easy, so I’m happy with the way we performed defensively.”
Mologeni earned his first Player of the Match award of the season following our 2-1 away victory over Kamuzu Barracks.
His second came in the 2-0 home win against Creck Sporting before his contribution at both ends of the pitch secured a third individual honour in Karonga.
The growing recognition reflects his consistent influence, but Mologeni’s assessment of Sunday’s victory remained rooted in teamwork, organisation and a determination to meet the required standards in every assignment.
The result moved Bullets into third position with 26 points from 13 matches, level with second-placed Mighty Wanderers and two behind leaders Silver Strikers.
Wedson Nyirenda’s side now turn their attention to another away fixture against Luanar Mitundu in Dedza, our final match on the road in the first round.
