FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves extended their winning run in the SRFA FINCA Division One League to eleven matches with a 2-0 victory over Zingwangwa United at Moneymen Ground on Sunday afternoon.
First-half goals from Limbitso Chimanjamanja and captain Francis Malikebu secured another three points for Henry Kabichi’s side, who made two well-worked attacking moves count to establish a two-goal advantage before the break.
The result takes Bullets Reserves to 40 points at the top of the standings, maintaining their impressive momentum in the second round of the campaign.
Chimanjamanja and Malikebu Put Bullets in Control
Bullets made a bright start, coming close to breaking the deadlock in the second minute when Zaneel Jussab struck the left post following a corner.
The breakthrough arrived just three minutes later.
Kondwani Mhone initiated a flowing move by finding Malikebu, who released Vincent Kampira down the flank. The winger delivered an inviting cross into the box, where Chimanjamanja rose highest to head home and give the visitors an early lead.
Kabichi’s men continued to press, with Precious Juma delivering a free-kick in the 12th minute for Eustache Baraki, whose header fell into Kampira’s path, but the winger fired over the crossbar.
Another set-piece created an opportunity seven minutes later when Kampira won a free-kick, allowing Mhone to deliver into the danger area, but Malikebu sent his header wide.
The young Bullets threatened again in the 25th minute when Jazil Bannet played a short free-kick to Mhone, who set up Chimanjamanja, but the goalscorer was unable to keep his effort down.
Zingwangwa’s Zeu Nyaka received the first yellow card of the afternoon in the 28th minute following a foul on Chimanjamanja.
The Bullets goalscorer was also booked three minutes later for a challenge on home goalkeeper Jimmy Gondwe, before Matthews Nkunika went into the referee’s book in the 34th minute.
The hosts made their first substitution in the 39th minute, introducing Christopher Henry in place of Kennedy Khonje.
However, Bullets doubled their advantage a minute later.
Mtende Mayuni started another well-worked move from the back, picking out Kampira’s run down the flank. His cross found Chimanjamanja, whose effort struck the post, but Malikebu reacted quickest to turn home the rebound and make it 2-0.
Kabichi’s side went into the break with a two-goal cushion after a productive opening half in which they created several opportunities and made their attacking pressure count.
Bullets Hold Firm After the Break
Zingwangwa emerged for the second half looking for a way back into the contest and forced Ganizani Banda into action in the 49th minute.
The Bullets goalkeeper produced an excellent save to turn an effort behind for a corner before dealing with the resulting delivery to preserve the visitors’ advantage.
Jussab tried his luck from distance six minutes later, but his effort drifted wide as the contest became more evenly balanced.
The hosts made two changes in the 59th minute, introducing Elias Frank and Watson Majuni for Watson Malonga and Jabulani Mwachikonga, respectively.
Bullets continued to threaten from set-pieces, winning a corner in the 62nd minute, but Zingwangwa cleared Mhone’s delivery.
Two minutes later, Bannet saw his effort deflected behind for another corner. Mhone played the set-piece short to Kampira before delivering into the box, but the home defence again cleared the danger.
With both sides looking to make an impact, clear-cut opportunities became harder to create as the second half progressed.
Zingwangwa introduced Kelton Harawa for Prince Chirwa in the 74th minute before Kabichi responded with three changes two minutes later.
Alex White, Duncan Kumbuyo and Kondwani Chaula replaced Mhone, Baraki and Chimanjamanja, respectively, as the young Bullets looked to maintain their advantage in the closing stages.
The hosts threatened again in the 80th minute, but captain Malikebu read the danger well and cleared to protect the visitors’ two-goal lead.
Kabichi made two further substitutions five minutes later, introducing Charles Kasalanga and Felix Jalasi in place of Malikebu and Kampira.
Bullets almost added a third in stoppage time when Kumbuyo picked out White, but the substitute’s effort went narrowly wide of the right post.
The visitors saw out the remaining moments to secure all three points and another clean sheet, completing a disciplined away performance.
Kabichi Emphasises Player Development
Speaking after the match, Kabichi praised his players for adapting to difficult playing conditions but acknowledged that his side must continue improving its finishing.
“I want to commend the boys for the victory. We knew the pitch conditions were not ideal for players at this level, but we had to adapt and make the most of the situation.
“We did not manage to register shots on target in the second half, which shows there is still work to be done, particularly with our finishing. That is our responsibility as coaches, but I am encouraged that we continue to create opportunities.
“I would also encourage our supporters to keep backing these boys because they are still young and developing. At this stage, our main focus is not on league positions or points. What matters most is seeing the players put into practice what we teach them in training and assessing whether they are ready to compete at a higher level.
“That is our main objective as coaches: to develop these players and prepare them for the next level of competition.”
