Bullets Women were left frustrated in Lilongwe after creating opportunities but failing to find a breakthrough in a narrow NBM Women’s Premiership defeat.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women suffered a 1-0 defeat to MDF Lioness at Civo Stadium on Sunday afternoon despite a determined attacking display in the NBM Women’s Premiership.
Maggie Chombo’s side started positively and continued pushing for a way back into the contest after falling behind in the first half, but could not turn their opportunities into goals.
The result marked Bullets Women’s second league defeat in six matches, leaving them on 12 points following last weekend’s victory over Kukoma Ntopwa Ladies.
Bullets Make Bright Start
Bullets began positively, pressing high and looking to establish control of the contest in the opening exchanges.
The visitors enjoyed promising spells of possession, with Carol Mulenzo, Mary Chavinda and Linda Nyangu involved in the attacking moves, but struggled to find the finishing touch.
MDF Lioness were forced into an early substitution in the 10th minute when Catherine Kachale sustained an injury, with Grace Masuku introduced in her place.
Chombo’s side continued searching for an opening, but their efforts either went wide or were comfortably dealt with by the hosts’ goalkeeper.
MDF Lioness Take First-Half Lead
Despite Bullets Women’s positive start, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Asimenye Simwaka.
The forward held off her marker before finding the net to give MDF Lioness the advantage.
Bullets nearly fell further behind shortly before the interval when a defensive mistake presented Simwaka with another opportunity, but she sent her effort wide.
The visitors went into the break trailing 1-0.
Bullets Push for a Response
Bullets Women returned for the second half determined to restore parity, stepping up their attacking efforts in search of an equaliser.
Chavinda tested the MDF Lioness goalkeeper with a free-kick, but her effort was saved.
Substitute Vanessa Issa then found herself in a promising position after receiving a well-weighted pass from Lyna James, but could not convert the opportunity.
Maule Ladies continued to threaten through Issa and Chavinda, creating further openings without finding a way past the hosts’ defence.
At the other end, Bernadetta Mkandawire remained composed at the back, helping prevent MDF Lioness from extending their advantage.
Late Pressure Yields No Equaliser
Bullets maintained their attacking pressure in the closing stages, pushing numbers forward as they searched for a late breakthrough.
Leah Mussa won a free-kick in the 88th minute, presenting Chombo’s side with another opportunity to threaten the hosts’ goal.
However, MDF Lioness held firm to protect their slender advantage and secure all three points.
The defeat leaves Bullets Women with four victories from their opening six NBM Women’s Premiership matches as they look to respond in their next league assignment.
