Four FCB Nyasa Big Bullets players have earned places in Malawi’s squad for the November TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers against Egypt, with goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu receiving his first Flames call-up in over two years.
Nyasulu is joined by club captain Blessings Mpokera, midfielder Yankho Singo and forward Ephraim Kondowe in Kalisto Pasuwa’s squad for the Group B double-header against the Pharaohs.
The quartet is part of Malawi’s nine locally based players expected to depart for Cairo on Sunday, 8 November, ahead of the opening encounter on Friday, 13 November.
For Nyasulu, the selection marks a return to the Flames setup for the first time since August 2024, when he was included in former head coach Patrick Mabedi’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burundi and Burkina Faso.
The goalkeeper has been in impressive form for The People’s Team this season, recording 11 clean sheets in 16 FDH Bank Premiership appearances while conceding just five goals.
Mpokera, Singo and Kondowe retain their places in the national-team setup after being part of Malawi’s squad for the opening Group B fixtures against South Sudan and Angola.
Singo and Kondowe were both introduced during the second half of the Flames’ 2-1 victory over South Sudan at Bingu National Stadium in September, while Mpokera remained an unused substitute.
Pasuwa’s selection also features 15 foreign-based players, who will link up with the locally based contingent directly in Egypt ahead of the first encounter.
Malawi enter the double-header third in Group B with three points from two matches, one behind joint leaders Egypt and Angola, who have four points each. The Pharaohs lead on goal difference, while South Sudan remain bottom without a point.
The Flames opened their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 home victory over South Sudan before suffering a 3-1 defeat away to Angola in October.
Malawi will face Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on Friday, 13 November, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 Malawi time.
The Flames will then return home for the reverse fixture at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Tuesday, 17 November, kicking off at 15:00.
With just one point separating Malawi from the Group B leaders, the back-to-back encounters against Egypt could prove pivotal in shaping the Flames’ qualification campaign.
