FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves produced an emphatic return to winning ways, overturning an early deficit to defeat Chiradzulu United 10-1 in the SRFA FINCA Division One League at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Vincent Kampira and substitute Verson Mudu each scored a hat-trick, while Limbitso Chimanjamanja, Zaneel Jussab, Francis Malikebu and Brian Mwase completed the scoring in a dominant attacking display.
The victory took the young Bullets to 44 points, opening a nine-point lead at the summit and extending their unbeaten league run to thirteen matches. It also set the season’s biggest winning margin, surpassing Thondwe’s 7-1 victory over Nchima and Bullets’ identical result against Zingwangwa United.
Bullets Turn Setback into Commanding Lead
Bullets signalled their intent early, with Chimanjamanja flagged offside after meeting Kampira’s third-minute corner.
Malikebu broke through the Chiradzulu defence three minutes later, but goalkeeper Chifundo Masaka comfortably saved his effort. Jazil Bannet then fired wide after recovering possession when his ninth-minute corner was cleared.
Despite that promising start, the hosts fell behind in the 12th minute. Chiradzulu were awarded a penalty, and Briton Bwanaisa converted, sending Julius Banda the wrong way.
Bullets responded within three minutes. Eustache Baraki started a flowing move from the back before Malikebu supplied the cross for Chimanjamanja to fire home.
The equaliser gave the hosts fresh impetus, and Malikebu provided his second assist in the 23rd minute, setting up Jussab to put Bullets ahead.
With the young Bullets increasingly assured in possession, Masaka pushed away a dangerous Bannet cross on the half-hour mark. Chimanjamanja then sent an effort over the bar from Jussab’s delivery four minutes later.
Chiradzulu introduced Bright Pensulo for Victor Moses in the 38th minute, but Bullets extended their lead almost immediately.
Bannet released Felix Jalasi down the right, and his cross picked out Kampira, who finished well to make it 3-1.
Kampira struck again in first-half stoppage time. After Malikebu was fouled inside the box and play continued, Chimanjamanja collected the loose ball and set up Kampira for his second.
Having trailed early, Bullets went into the interval 4-1 ahead following a clinical response.
Mudu Leads Second-Half Charge
Assistant coach Gift Nyirenda, taking charge while Henry Kabichi attends a CAF C coaching course in the Central Region, made two changes at the restart.
Mudu replaced Chimanjamanja, while Matthews Nkunika came on for Yankho Phiri.
Chiradzulu made a triple substitution in the 49th minute, introducing Latif Driano, Amon Fack and Yesaya Banda for Matheus Tivalenji, Ian Kalombo and Precious Kaziputa, respectively, but the hosts maintained their attacking rhythm.
Mudu needed just six minutes to make his mark, finishing from Jalasi’s assist in the 52nd minute to put Bullets 5-1 ahead.
The forward almost added another two minutes later, heading narrowly wide after a short corner involving Bannet and Malikebu.
Jussab then struck the post following another incisive move. Mudu and Jalasi combined before Malikebu supplied the pass for Jussab’s attempt.
The visitors introduced Ishumael Wadi for Matthews Lilaya on the hour, but Mudu scored his second two minutes later, slotting into an empty net from Kampira’s pass.
Masaka denied Mudu a third in the 65th minute, saving when the substitute raced through one-on-one.
Nyirenda made another double change four minutes later, introducing Mwase and Charles Kasalanga for Baraki and Bannet, respectively.
After Innocent Saize was booked for a foul on Kampira in the 73rd minute, Mudu completed his treble a minute later to make it 7-1.
Kampira Joins Mudu as Bullets Reach Ten
Rashid Nicks made his debut in the 76th minute, replacing Banda for his first appearance since joining on loan from Ndirande Stars.
Four minutes later, Kampira became Bullets’ second hat-trick scorer of the afternoon.
Malikebu spotted Jalasi’s run down the right and played him through, with Jalasi delivering another assist for Kampira to finish.
Precious Juma nearly joined the scorers in the 84th minute. The defender beat the offside trap 35 yards from goal and raced clear, but Masaka denied him as he attempted to round the goalkeeper.
Captain Malikebu added the ninth two minutes later. Mudu won possession from Masaka and found Kasalanga, whose pass picked out Malikebu for the finish.
Bullets continued to attack through four minutes of added time, reaching double figures when Mwase scored in the second minute of stoppage time.
His strike completed the league’s first ten-goal haul of the season and a resounding response to the previous weekend’s goalless draw against Nyambadwe United.
Nyirenda Praises Character and Application
Nyirenda praised the players for carrying their work in training into the match and maintaining their belief after conceding first.
“It was a good game for us today. What we have been working on in training, the boys managed to apply it on the pitch, and we are happy with the performance. We are also delighted to become the first team to score ten goals in the league.”
The speed and conviction of the comeback particularly pleased the assistant coach, although he also identified defensive improvement as a priority.
“I really liked the response from the boys after going down to a goal. We managed to score quickly and turn things around, which showed the character and confidence within the team. However, we would have loved to keep a clean sheet, and that is something we need to work on.”
Despite the commanding result, Nyirenda stressed the need to maintain their standards against opponents increasingly motivated to test the league leaders.
“For now, we are taking one game at a time. We will go back to training, assess our performance and prepare for whoever we face next. When you are winning consistently, opponents tend to come at you with extra motivation, so we know every game will be a different challenge.”
He also underlined the importance of using the victory to support the players’ continued development.
“We are happy with this victory because it will help build confidence among the boys. The most important thing for us remains the development of these players, maintaining our standards and continuing to improve as a team.”
