Pasuwa’s injury update: Sambani likely to miss remainder of season

Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Kalisto Pasuwa on Monday provided an update on injuries, including four first team players among them defender Precious Sambani, who could be out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

The left-back was stretchered off in the 17th minute and taken to the hospital during Bullets’ 2-0 victory over Ekwendeni Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

“Unfortunately he sustained a suspected fracture to the knee bone, with likely ligament involvement, but we will have full details on Sunday after his MRI scan in Lilongwe.

“But even without full details, it doesn’t look good and there is 95 percent possibility that he won’t be available for the remainder of the season,” he told Bullets media.

“It’s a huge blow. He has been one of the top performers in the ongoing season,” Pasuwa expressed his disappointment on the injury of the defender, who has registered three goals and four assists in the TNM Super League this campaign.

“Sambani was contributing to both attacking and defending phases of play. You could see him doing well in the defending third, attacking third and he will be missed. I wish him the quickest recovery.”

Pasuwa brought on captain John Lanjesi off the bench to partner Nickson Nyasulu in central defence whilst Sankhani Mkandawire was pushed on the left as wing-back with the absence of left-back Yamikani Fodya, who was missing from the matchday squad.

The head further provided updates on strikers Zicco Mkanda, midfielder Meshack Seleman and goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe.

“Zicco has a suspected thigh injury which is making him to struggle and he is likely to be out for two weeks before reassessing him in the third week,” disclosed Pasuwa. “And Seleman has been struggling with a groin injury which also forced us to pull him out on Saturday. We will reassess him this week.”

On Kakhobwe, who has been on the sidelines for two months due to knee and ankle injuries, the coach said, “He is supposed to undergo an MRI scan to determine if he is now okay or if he still needs further treatment. As a coach, I will be able to tell the dates of his return once I get reports from the medical team after undergoing the scanning.”
