Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves are through to the finals of the inaugural Powertex Top 8 Cup after beating Immigration FC 1-0 in a match that was played at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was a match where Bullets Reserves dominated possession and should have won the match with a wider margin but they were not clinical enough in front as they kept on missing chances.
In the 12th minute, Chifundo Ngapenga had his attempt well saved by Wilson Chagona for a corner.
The young Bullets should have scored in the 23rd minute when Ngapenga made his way into the box to find Patrick Mwaungulu in the six yard box, but the winger blasted his effort over the cross bar in unbelievable circumstances.
However, Enos Chatama’s side was able to break the deadlock in the 23rd minute through Alex Tsamba who just made a simple finish following a good exchange of passes between Chimwemwe Yassin and Mwaungulu to find the Bullets number 9.
The youngsters almost doubled their lead in the 41st minute through Mwaungulu whose well curved freekick was saved by Chagona.
Back from recess, Bullets Reserves were the first to attack in this final half and nearly increased their lead, but Yasin’s weaker shot was easily saved by Chigona.
Immigration made a double substitution by introducing Donnex Mkwinda and Chimwemwe Ibrahim for Henry Banda and Chancy Chamba.
Bullets had another chance in the 53rd but it went over the bar through Ngapenga.
In the 55th minute, Chatama made his only change of the semi-final match when he brought in Chikumbutso Salima for Yassin to try to add more firepower upfront.
It was more of Bullets than the hosts, who had not released any shot at Rahaman John.
Immigration made another change in the 74th minute by taking out Hendrix Jika for Joseph Chipwaila as they tried to push for an equalizer that would have forced the match into penalties, but Bullets Reserves defended jealously to frustrate the hosts.
The hosts made another change in the 80th minute by introducing Sebastian Msiska for Tamandani Hillary.
The substitute almost produced a last minute shocker when he was found unmarked in the box in a one on one situation with the ‘keeper, but his strike hit the woodwork to the relief of Chatama’s side, and that was all for the match as Bullets Reserves sealed the win to progress to the finals of the competition.
