Bullets mourn former player and coach Rodgers Yasin

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club is mourning the passing of former player and head coach Rodgers Yasin, who died on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, in Blantyre.

Yasin, a respected football figure, leaves behind a lasting legacy that touched multiple generations of Malawian football as both a player and coach.

The former defender proudly wore the Bullets colours between the late 1970s and early 1980s during a memorable era for The People’s Team.

He also featured for Blue Eagles and Mighty Wanderers and represented the Malawi National Team, earning recognition as one of the respected figures of his generation.

His passion for the sport remained unwavering long after his playing days.

Having previously served as chairperson of the club’s technical committee, Yasin was appointed Bullets head coach in 2017 and led The People’s Team until 2018.

His time in charge reflected the same passion, calm leadership and commitment that defined his lifelong association with The People’s Team and ensured his place in the club’s proud history.

Following his time at Bullets, Yasin continued his coaching journey with top-flight sides Mighty Tigers and Sable Farming FC.

He also remained committed to mentoring and developing players across the country.

Even in recent years, Yasin remained actively involved in the game.

In June 2024, he was appointed head coach of Bangwe All Stars before later taking up the role of Technical Director at Chilobwe United.

He carried the dream of helping his hometown club earn promotion to the National Division League, the second tier of Malawian football.

Even in his later years, Yasin remained devoted to nurturing talent and uplifting communities through football.

As news of his passing spread on Wednesday, tributes poured in from across the football fraternity in honour of a man remembered not only for his knowledge and leadership, but also for his humility, mentorship and tireless service to the sport.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets extends its sincere condolences to the Yasin family, friends and the entire football community during this difficult time.

His contribution to Bullets and Malawian football will continue to inspire generations to come.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
