Bullets name U17 squad for Zambia tournament

The young Bullets are set for Zambia after Yamikani Fodya named a 22-player squad for the Kafue Celtic Under-17 Tournament in Lusaka.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets youth coach Yamikani Fodya has named his final squad for the upcoming Kafue Celtic Under-17 Tournament in Lusaka, Zambia.

The Bullets U17 are scheduled to depart Malawi on Wednesday ahead of the tournament, which will run from 5-7 June in Lusaka.

Bringing together youth teams from Zambia, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the competition will provide the young Bullets with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against different opposition and gain international experience.

For The People’s Team, the trip represents another important step in the club’s commitment to youth development and exposing young players to football beyond Malawi’s borders.

Fodya believes the selected squad has earned the opportunity after several weeks of hard work and commitment on the training ground.

“The players have worked hard throughout our preparations and we are pleased with the attitude they have shown. We believe this group is ready for the challenge ahead and we are looking forward to seeing them compete against different opposition.”

The 22-player travelling squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: 1 Hopeson Phiri, 16 Hassan Asima.

Defenders: 79 Francis Alfazema, 80 Precious Juma, 83 Ahamad Ayami, 77 Shenad Loleni, 93 Prince Jamali, 92 Kelvin Phiri, 84 Thole Sachenja, 89 Phunziro Mataka.

Midfielders: 82 Gome Maziya, 78 Timothy George, 88 Chikondi Howa, 87 Mike Kalanda, 95 Justin Chipewa, 91 Blessings Chuma.

Wingers: 94 Esau Yotamu, 75 Dickson Kameza, 81 Elias Ledson, 90 Emmanuel Kaswaswa.

Strikers: 85 Andrew Ndeule, 76 Misheck Beka.

The tournament is expected to provide valuable international exposure for the young Bullets as they test themselves against youth teams from different football environments.

Beyond the experience on the pitch, scouts and youth football stakeholders from across Africa and Europe are expected to attend the event, giving the players a platform to showcase their talent to a wider audience.

The team will depart for Zambia on Wednesday before beginning its campaign in Lusaka on Friday as it looks to make the most of a valuable international development opportunity.
