Malawi wrapped up their second international friendly of the November FIFA window with a 1-0 victory over Lesotho at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday afternoon, with four FCB Nyasa Big Bullets players involved across the two matches.
Head coach Kalisto Pasuwa named Blessings Mpokera, Chikumbutso Salima and Babatunde Adepoju in his starting lineup, giving Bullets a strong presence in the Flames setup for the second fixture of the international window.
Yankho Singo, who played the full 90 minutes in the first match between the two sides, started on the bench as Pasuwa opted to give more minutes to players who did not feature in the opening game.
The Flames took the lead in the 25th minute through Mayele Malango, finishing off a flowing move that featured involvement from Babatunde and Qatar-based midfielder Lloyd Aaron, a former Bullets captain.
Baba produced a clever flick to release Aaron, who advanced into the box before delivering a low cut-back across goal. Malango timed his run perfectly to guide the ball home from close range with the goalkeeper already beaten.
The match—initially scheduled to kick off at 16:00—was delayed by 30 minutes due to heavy rain and lightning in Bloemfontein.
Malawi remained composed throughout the first half, protecting their advantage as they went into the break leading 1-0.
As the second half unfolded, Malawi continued to manage the game well, making strategic substitutions to maintain energy levels.
In the 68th minute, Chikumbutso Salima paved the way for Macdonald Lameck as part of a double substitution, with Lloyd Njaliwa also replacing goalscorer Malango.
Babatunde Adepoju, who worked tirelessly across the frontline, was withdrawn in the 77th minute as captain Gabadinho Mhango entered the match. During the same substitution window, former Bullets forward Lanjesi Nkhoma replaced Robert Saizi, adding fresh pace to the attack.
Blessings Mpokera delivered another solid shift at right-back, while Singo remained on the bench after completing a full match three days earlier.
The victory sealed a positive international window for the Flames, who used the two friendlies to test combinations and build momentum ahead of next year’s AFCON qualifiers and regional competitions.
With Mpokera, Salima, Babatunde and Singo all involved across the November fixtures, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets once again enjoyed prominent representation in the national team setup.
The Bullets quartet will now switch focus back to domestic football as The People’s Team welcome Civil Service United on Sunday in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium.
