FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head to Castel Challenge Cup with nearly-full squad

Chirwa gives squad update ahead of Castel Cup final

Gilbert Chirwa has provided an update on his squad as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets gear up for Saturday’s Castel Challenge Cup final against Goshen City Dedza Dynamos at Bingu National Stadium.

During his Thursday pre-match press conference in Blantyre, our interim head coach revealed that the squad remains largely intact, with only leftbacks Aaron Chilipa and Chrispin Mapemba unavailable.

“The boys are all fit and ready to perform. Only two players are on the injury list, Aaron Chilipa and Chrispin Mapemba,” Chirwa said.

Bullets head into the final on the back of a strong campaign, having scored ten goals and conceded just one in four matches. Our rock-solid defense and tactical discipline have been key, giving the team confidence as we chase more silverware.

The team’s attacking firepower has been led by Maxwell Phodo, who tops the competition’s scorers’ chart with seven goals in four matches, while Yamikani Mologeni has been the creative engine, providing six assists across our ten goals.

This weekend’s clash marks Bullets’ 17th cup final in the last 14 years — and our second shot at the Castel Challenge Cup after lifting it in 2023.

Chirwa’s men booked their place in the capital with a 2-0 win over Mzuzu City Hammers, thanks to Wongani Lungu’s brilliant brace.

Asked about the journey to the final, Chirwa said:

“It means a lot and is motivational for the team, we are motivated to go there and win the cup.”

With a near-full squad and the passionate red army, Maule are ready to chase another historic triumph.
