Creck Sporting Club made an impressive entrance into Malawi’s top-flight football, securing a remarkable top-eight finish in their inaugural TNM Super League season last year.
For the first time since entering the top-flight, the Lilongwe side is set to face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in a cup fixture. This marks our third competitive encounter, following two league meetings last season—a 1-1 draw in June and a thrilling 3-2 victory in September.
As we prepare for the first-leg clash of the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinals at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, let’s take a closer look at our opponents.
2024 Season
After earning promotion from Chipiku Central Region Football League as Kawinga FC in 2023, the team rebranded to Crerk Sporting Club in preparation for their 2024 debut in the top-flight. Impressively, they finished their first season in sixth place, earning a spot in this year’s Airtel Top 8 competition.
Despite their good form in the league, the Lilongwe side faced challenges in knock-out competitions. They were ousted from the FDH Bank Cup in the Round of 16 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Baka City at Karonga Stadium. In the Castel Challenge Cup, despite leading with less than 10 minutes to play, they eventually lost 4-1 on penalties, bowing out in the quarterfinals.
In spite of these setbacks, their season was a success overall, finishing in the league’s top eight. Their record stood at 10 wins, 12 draws, and eight losses, scoring 44 goals while conceding 33.
2025 Season
In preparation for the new campaign, Creck played a series of four pre-season matches. They began with a confident 3-1 win over Mafco FC at Champions Stadium in Mponela. Next, they competed in the Sapwita 4 tournament at Mulanje Park, where they narrowly lost to Bullets 1-0 on the opening day before settling for a 1-1 draw against Mighty Tigers in the third-place match the next day. Their pre-season campaign concluded on a high note with a dominant 8-1 triumph over Mitundu Baptist.
However, despite ending their warm-up fixtures on a strong footing, Kamwendo’s squad heads to Blantyre on the back of a tough start to their TNM Super League season. Last Sunday, they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Dedza Dynamos at the Champions Stadium.
New Signings
The squad saw an influx of ten new players as Miracle Gabeya, Brighton Munthali, Ganizani Kapuchi, Clement N’dokwe, Isaac Msiska, Jack Beza, Kondwani Chilembwe, Patrick Mafuzi, Hassan Hussein, and Patrick Mupanzi joined the club. On the other hand, Yamikani Tambala, Charles Chisale, and Yasin Kida were loaned out, while Daud Chalira, Rahim Mtondera, and David Habu were permanently released.
Coaching Team
In January, Creck appointed Joseph Kamwendo as head coach on a permanent basis, replacing Macdonald Mtetemera, who is now assistant coach at Mighty Wanderers. The former Malawi midfielder picked Abel Mkandawire and Harry Saidi as his first and second assistants, respectively. Sibusiso Padambo joined as the goalkeeping coach, while our ex-forward Chiukepo Msowoya took on the dual role of striking coach and fitness trainer.
