The People’s Team will face off against Silver Strikers in a special match organized by our sponsor, First Capital Bank, in celebration of the bank’s 30 years of service.
This commemorative game will be played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on June 29, celebrating 30 years since First Capital Bank first opened its doors.
During a joint press conference in Blantyre on Wednesday, FCB’s Head of Marketing & Communications, Twikale Chirwa, highlighted the importance of the occasion.
“We’re celebrating 30 years in the banking industry since our foundation in 1995. Today, we have a presence in six countries—Malawi, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and Mozambique. As our footprint grows, we wanted to mark this milestone with our fans, the public, and our loyal customers by hosting a football match together.”
“This event is not just a celebration but also our way of giving back to the supporters and customers who have stood with us over the past three decades,” Chirwa explained.
He also announced that the proceeds from the match would be dedicated to supporting youth football.
“FCB currently sponsors the Under 20 League here in Malawi. The funds generated from this game will go to the Football Association of Malawi’s Luwinga Technical Centre in Mzuzu, driving our mission to develop football talent from grassroots to the elite level,” Chirwa added.
Regarding the choice of opponent, Chirwa explained, “Silver Strikers are the reigning [TNM Super League] champions. Choosing them guarantees a thrilling contest. For the occasion, we’ve organized replica jerseys and other exciting giveaways to ensure the match is both memorable and entertaining.”
On behalf of the club, Bullets CEO Albert Chigoga thanked FCB for including the team in their anniversary celebration.
“We’re honored to be involved, and it wouldn’t have felt right if we weren’t part of this milestone. We welcomed the idea of an anniversary match with Silver Strikers and collaborated closely with the Football Association of Malawi and the Super League of Malawi, who granted us a special exemption from competitive fixtures for this event.
“We urge all our fans to come out in full force for this worthy cause. The proceeds from the gates will go directly to youth football development, which is truly commendable. As a club, we owe much to youth initiatives like the FCB Youth competition, which has produced many outstanding players who have gone on to play internationally,” Chigoga said.
He also acknowledged the positive partnership with FCB, saying “Running a club of this magnitude comes with many challenges, but FCB’s support has been crucial. I’m confident that our partnership will continue to flourish, making a significant contribution to the growth of football in Malawi.”
