After spending several months sidelined by a right foot injury picked up during pre-season, Frank Willard finally made his eagerly anticipated comeback on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.
The defensive midfielder helped FCB Nyasa Big Bullets cruise to a 4-1 victory over Creck Sporting Club in the TNM Super League.
Willard entered the fray in the 30th minute, coming on for Yankho Singo. With a determined yet emotional look on his face, Willard jogged onto the field to the enthusiastic cheers of fans who had long awaited his return.
His presence instantly brought renewed composure and balance to the center of the pitch, bolstering our dominance as the match unfolded.
After the final whistle, Willard shared his gratitude and the emotions he felt about returning to competitive action.
“It’s difficult to describe,” he told club media. “There were moments during my recovery when I wondered if I’d get back to this point. Being out there again, I just thank God—it’s what I worked so hard for.”
Perhaps the most poignant moment of the afternoon came six minutes after the hour mark when captain Loyd Arron handed Willard the armband before making way. This gesture not only celebrated his return as a player but also underscored his leadership within the squad.
“I truly didn’t see that coming,” Willard recalled. “When Arron gave me the captain’s armband, it really hit me—I almost got emotional on the spot. Having that trust and responsibility is something I’ll always cherish.”
Bullets dictated the tempo throughout, capping a dominant display with four superbly crafted goals.
Willard’s return has brought invaluable experience and depth back to the squad.
