Kalisto Pasuwa was pleased with the way Bullets responded to coming from drawing blanks to scoring five past Bangwe All Stars at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
The People’s Team demolished Rodgers Yasin’s men 5-0 to progress to the Last 16 of the FDH Bank Cup.
Patrick Mwaungulu, Chikumbutso Salima and Babatunde Adepoju were on target as Bullets came from a goalless first half to find the back of the net five times in the final period.
After registering our last victory on 18 May, Bullets had only scored a single goal in June, from three matches.
In the league, Pasuwa’s men have seven draws, three wins and a loss, scoring 11 goals in 11 matches, despite creating plenty of chances.
After Sunday’s big win, the Zimbabwean reiterated that Bullets needed that kind of motivation for goals to start coming again.
“We have been struggling to score goals, but today we came out good in the second half to score five goals. It’s a great motivation factor to everybody in the house that we can create and score goals no matter how difficult a situation may look. I am happy that the boys responded well to whatever has been happening in recent matches where they could do everything but no result,” reacted Pasuwa in his post-match interview.
He was happy with how Bullets responded in the second half after missing several chances in the opening period.
“As I said, we missed so many chances in the first half and if you can see, most of the games that we have been playing, we play possession football but we fail to convert chances into goals. A game is all about goals. You can play beautiful football, but you need to score.”
He added: “If we were facing an experienced side [this afternoon] they could have punished us on the counter just because they had two to three chances that should have punished us, but we came good in the second half. The boys were getting in the right position at the right time and we got the goals coming.
“We must encourage the boys not to look down on themselves and keep pushing for more. Plenty of games are coming and this win is important because it has removed the pressure on the players. I am very encouraged with how they have fared in this game.”
The defending champions, who have reached the Last 16 of the FDH Bank Cup for the fourth consecutive year, will face Cobbe Barracks or Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the next round.
Cobbe and the Nomads will square off on Monday at Balaka Stadium.
