Loan Watch: Magaleta scores as Ekwendeni register first league win

Matchweek 5 of the 2023 TNM Super League season saw only two of our players on loan involved while others missed out on different grounds.

After featuring for Ekwendeni Hammers in their back-to-back league fixtures against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers, Felix Demakude, missed out his side’s home fixture against Mafco FC last weekend through a rib injury.

Well, he was not the only Bullets player on loan who did not appear on Matchday 5 as his fellow five loanees were also unavailable for Bangwe All Stars in Blantyre.

Due to their loan agreements, Rahaman John, Chimwemwe Yassin, Yamikani Mologeni and Chikumbutsto Salima were not allowed to feature when Bangwe hosted their parent club, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, last Friday.

We take a look at those who got the minutes and how they performed.

Mphatso Magaleta

The midfielder has with no difficulty settled in the north as he continues accumulating more playing time for Ekwendeni Hammers in this campaign.

Going into last weekend’s tie, The Hammers were winless in four of their opening matches but Mphatso Magaleta’s lone strike in the Mafco tie ensured their first win.

So far, it looks to be working for Magaleta who, at Ekwendeni, is showing everything, he lacked at Bullets. Should he continue to maintain his consistency, the only option for Kalitso Pasuwa may be to bring the midfielder back into his winning team.

White Kitsen

Just like Magaleta, Kitsen has made himself part of the predictable backline setup for The Hammers. Week in and out, the defender is finding himself in the starting line-up and seems to be paying an efficient contribution to Hammers’ results.

Against Mafco last weekend, he played the entire 90 minutes and zealously ensured he registered a clean sheet while helping his side record the first win of the season.

What next for them

Following their victory over Mafco last week, Ekwendeni Hammers will play host to Chitipa United. This fixture comes as another chance for the trio of Bullets loanees at the Northern Region side to keep on building up their minutes.

Largely Bangwe All Stars felt the absence of the five Bullets players they have on loan when the TNM Super League rookies succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against The People’s Team last Friday. Nonetheless, Mabvuto Lungu will be pleased to welcome back the five players to his squad when his team takes on Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in their next TNM Super League fixture at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
