After three games on the road, Bullets return to Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon for TNM Super League action against Karonga United.
The 14:30 kick-off is Kalisto Pasuwa’s men’s last but one fixture in the league this season.
After winning the league championship in the past five years, Maule haven’t had a successful campaign this term, surrendering the title to Silver Strikers, who have won it after 11 years.
But following our 2-0 over FOMO away in Mulanje on Sunday, Pasuwa made it clear that his charges will fight for points until the last game despite losing the championship.
All three points are vital for both teams in Wednesday’s tie, as Bullets are now eyeing a second spot in the standings while the visitors want a place in the top eight.
FORM GUIDE
Recording a 2-0 win at Mulanje Park three days ago was a boost for the outgoing Malawi champions, who, looking for a Top-2 finish, dropped points following 0-0 and 2-all draws against Silver Strikers and Civil Service United away in Lilongwe last week.
Third in the standings with 49 points, Bullets risk finishing outside the top two for the first time since the 2013 season when we ended that term in eighth position with 41 points.
Maule have finished top of the table in the 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020-21, 2022 and 2023 seasons. We finished as runners-up in the 2016 and 2017 campaigns.
Going into the midweek clash, Karonga are coming from a 2-0 win over Bangwe All Stars on Sunday to keep their top-eight hopes alive.
Before defeating the relegation-threatened Bangwe, our Wednesday opponents eliminated Moyale Barracks from the Castel Challenge Cup in the Round of 16, winning 5-4 on penalties.
However, they had an afternoon to forget when they lost 3-0 to Civil Services United away at Civo Stadium on 24 November.
They are currently sitting in sixth position with 41 points from 28 games, and they will finish their campaign away to FOMO FC on Saturday.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
From our previous 11 meetings, Bullets have seven wins, two draws, and two losses.
The last encounter was in July in the opening round of this campaign at Karonga Stadium where they came from behind to win 2-1.
In November last year, Bullets recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Karonga away from home, after a goalless draw in the first round of that season.
TEAM NEWS
Chrispin Mapemba, Clyde Senaji and Anthony Mfune remain on the sidelines due to injuries.
Frank Willard, who missed FOMO’s game due to suspension, is back in contention for a place in Pasuwa’s starting eleven.
