Mponda explains Henderson exit, updates on transfer plans

Head coach Peter Mponda has explained the reasons behind Chikumbutso Henderson’s exit from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and shared his thoughts on the current transfer window.

On Thursday, the club confirmed that Henderson’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent, seven months after joining The People’s Team on a two-year deal from Mzuzu City Hammers in January 2025. The 30-year-old did not feature in any competitive fixture during the first half of the season, appearing only in non-competitive matches.

Speaking on Friday afternoon in Chitipa during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s FDH Bank Cup Round of 32 tie against Chilumba Barracks, Mponda explained:

“Three weeks after signing Chikumbutso, I went to the management and I told them that it was a panic signing. That time we had lost the whole backline, and we wanted numbers to start the preseason. It was a panic signing, and the management accepted.”

Turning to the ongoing transfer window, the head coach stressed that Bullets will only bring in players who can make a tangible impact on the squad.

“So far we are okay. In terms of going forward, we are scoring goals. At the back, yes, we are shaky, but we are managing. We are looking at the market and seeing who’s available to come and add something; I always say that we don’t want to bring for the sake of bringing, we need to bring players to add quality to the team.”

Mponda has already strengthened his squad with the signing of defender Khumbo Banda from Dedza Dynamos and the return of veteran forward Bright Munthali, who rejoined the club three years after leaving in 2022.
