Inside Bullets: What’s In Store This Week

It’s another action-packed week for The People’s Team across all levels. While Peter Mponda’s men turn their attention back to the TNM Super League, our Reserves and Under-19s are also in action as the first round of their campaigns draw to a close. Meanwhile, our Maule Sisters take a deserved pause with the NBM Women’s Premiership temporarily on hold.

Men’s First Team – Super League Return Up North

Following a 5-0 triumph over Chilumba Barracks to reach the FDH Bank Cup Round of 16 on Sunday, Peter Mponda’s men now switch focus to the TNM Super League fixture against Chitipa United at the same Chitipa Stadium this Saturday.

Bullets have been up North for a week now after arriving in Fort Hill last Thursday and will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-3 draw against Blue Eagles back in Blantyre a week ago.

Mponda’s side wrapped up the first round of the league campaign in second place with 34 points, just one behind leaders Mighty Wanderers. The People’s Team finished with the most wins (11), but also recorded three defeats, compared to their city rivals who ended the round unbeaten.

Despite this, Bullets emerged as the most prolific side in the opening half of the campaign, scoring 33 goals while conceding only eight. Wanderers, meanwhile, managed 23 goals and conceded seven.

Women’s Team – League Suspended

Maggie Chombo’s side, who also defeated Moyale Sisters 5-0 on Sunday, will not be involved this week. The NBM Women’s Championship has been suspended due to the Malawi National Women’s Team camp ahead of back-to-back international friendlies against Lesotho on 29 and 31 August at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

Additionally, Kukoma Ntopwa Women will be travelling to South Africa for the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers, leading to the extended suspension of domestic women’s fixtures.

Reserves – Midweek Challenge at Kamuzu

Heston Munthali’s men face Liberty FC this afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium to wrap up the first round of the 2025 ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League.

Liberty are coached by former Bullets captain and U19 assistant coach Chimango Kayira, bringing an added layer of familiarity to the contest.

A win for Bullets Reserves would see them climb to third in the standings with 30 points—just three behind leaders Ekhaya Reserves and two below Wanderers Reserves, who have already completed their 15 first-round matches.

Under-19 – Friday Morning Fixture

Yamikani Fodya’s U19s will be away to Extended Hope at Chilomoni Stadium on Friday, with kick-off set for 11:00 CAT.

Our developmental side is currently sitting fourth in the Blantyre District Youth Football League with 13 points from seven games, having recorded four wins, one draw and two losses.
