Misheck Billiat and Clever Kalambo were on target as six FCB Nyasa Big Bullets players started Malawi’s 3-0 victory over Botswana in the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations | COSAFA Qualifier in Mozambique on Monday.
After suffering a 2-0 defeat to Zambia on Friday in their first Group C match, Malawi responded with a convincing victory to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
Billiat put Malawi in front in the 22nd minute, finishing from a Kalambo assist.
Kalambo then doubled the advantage three minutes into first-half stoppage time, sending Malawi into the break with a two-goal cushion.
Billiat was named Player of the Match after scoring Malawi’s opener and later setting up Chibalo for the third goal in the 92nd minute, capping a decisive contribution to the victory.
Prince Chiumia, Kondwani Tebulo, Felix Jalasi and Madalitso Safuli joined Billiat and Kalambo in the starting XI.
Kalambo was substituted in the 70th minute, while Jalasi was withdrawn in the 84th.
The result lifts Malawi onto three points in Group C ahead of Wednesday’s final group-stage fixture against Comoros, with their semi-final qualification hopes now resting on the outcome of that encounter.
