FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Kalisto Pasuwa spoke to the media ahead of our TNM Super League clash against Civil Service United at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
He spoke about how The People’s Team has been working on finishing and mental strength as the defending champions switched focus from last Sunday’s FDH Bank Cup 5-0 thrashing of Bangwe All Stars.
The tactician also gave an update on his squad ahead of the important match and what he expects from the opposition, who gave us a tough run in the league last time out.
Read on as the Zimbabwean takes us through preparations for our twelfth fixture this league campaign.
On preparations for Civil
We have been encouraging the players more on how we address the box, how we do our business in front of the goal. As you know, in the league matches, we have been losing points through missing chances, so that’s the area we have been trying to deal with, to give them the confidence to say if we hit the ball at goal, it will go in, but it will need maximum concentration in whatever we do.
If that is working after we scored five goals last week
You know, that was a cup game and we talked about it. We agreed to say this is a tournament where one is knocked out. There is no one point, there are no three results in a knockout competition, and there are only two results; lose or win so it gets in their minds and they respond well.
On Sunday’s opponents
What I have seen in Malawi is that every team prepares well against Bullets even if they last played badly, but the moment they say they are playing Bullets they will play excellent football.
It’s good that we are preparing well for every team that we are meeting. We need to be doing that and then we work on the weaknesses that we are having of not scoring in league matches. As I said, Civil is a good team, they play very well, possession football but again, we need to be on our toes for us to be ready for them.
On sitting 13 points behind log leaders in the title race
As of now, maybe the concerns are what was giving us problems was our failure to score goals and also what we need to know is whether we have solved the problems that we are having. Like I told you, we are preparing ourselves for us to say if he hits the ball at goal, he will score, if we play more in the box, we will have more chances coming.
On team news
Most of the boys are training. And we have some of the guys who are starting their rehab still out. The only person you can talk about [coming back to the team] is Phodo as you saw him playing our last game.
