Nyasa Big Bullets’ opponents at the CECAFA Kagame Cup have been confirmed during Tuesday afternoon’s draw.
Kalisto Pasuwa’s side has been drawn in Pool C alongside Tanzania’s Young Africans (Yanga) and Uganda’s Express FC.
The People’s Team, invited as guests at the two-week tournament that kicks off on Sunday, will battle for a place in the knockout stages against the two East African giants.
Reacting to the draw, assistant coach Peter Mponda said it was early to talk much about the Dar es Salaam tournament at a time they were focusing on Friday’s TNM Super League clash against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium.
“It is what it is. This is the draw which has come out and there is nothing we can do about it, but our main focus is to play Silver Strikers on Friday before switching out attention to the competition in Tanzania,” said Mponda, who has been in charge of the team since last week as head coach Kalisto Pasuwa is in isolation due to Covid-19.
“We have been drawn against powerhouses like Yanga, who have won a lot of trophies in Tanzania, but we are also Bullets, we have our own history and I believe we will be geared to compete against our opponents at the tournament.
“It will also be an opportunity for our players to compete against best players from that region, so we are looking forward to having a good tournament but first things first, we have to beat Silver Strikers on Friday,” added Mponda.
Bullets are scheduled to depart for Tanzania on Sunday for the competition which will be staged from 1-15 August.
The engagement in the tournament will help Bullets prepare for the 2021/22 CAF Champions League games starting this September.
