Nyasa Big Bullets has contributed eight players to the senior Malawi national team as local-based Flames members go into camp to start preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Malawi will face Egypt in back-to-back matches to be played away in Cairo and then at home in Lilongwe next month.
Mario Marinica has picked 26 local-based players making the provisional squad to join the first phase of preparations that start on Monday, 5th February 2023 at the Mpira Village in Chiwembe, Blantyre.
Our defensive midfielder Frank Willard has earned his first senior national team call-up alongside goalkeeper Clever Mkungula, defenders Precious Sambani, Gomezgani Chirwa, Alick Lungu, Blessings Mpokera and midfielders Patrick Mwaungulu and new signing Chawanangwa Gumbo.
“The first stage is that we will have 26 players from Monday, 5th February to 8th February and thereafter release them to go to their clubs,” reads a statement by the Football Association of Malawi.
“Secondly, we will have the players from 14th to 24th February because we are planning to arrange a friendly match by late February so we are trying to work towards that. We want to have all the players available for the match in order to have a good exercise and fruitful friendly match.”
Malawi is expected to travel to Saud Arabia on 8th March for the next phase of camp where they will play at least three friendly matches with Saud Arabia’s local premier league teams, before flying to Cairo to face the Pharaohs.
