FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are in the Capital City for Thursday afternoon’s TNM Super League clash against Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium.
Maule head into this fixture looking to bounce straight back to the top of the log after dropping to second place when Mighty Wanderers defeated Mighty Tigers 3-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday.
The People’s Team arrive in Lilongwe just three days after an electrifying 4-3 victory over Civil Service United, where Bullets showcased immense character to come from behind twice in a thrilling seven-goal contest.
With the title race entering its defining stage, Maule continue their push to reclaim the championship, currently held by third-placed Silver Strikers, as the season edges toward its climax.
FORM GUIDE
November has delivered mixed results for Bullets. Before the international break, Maule suffered back-to-back defeats to Mighty Wanderers — 3-0 in the league and 1-0 in the FDH Bank Cup.
This was followed by a frustrating 0-0 draw away to Blue Eagles, where Bullets dominated but could not find the breakthrough.
After the break, the team responded emphatically with Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 home win over Civil, briefly going top of the table before Wanderers reclaimed the summit with their midweek result.
Kamuzu Barracks also approach this fixture with a blend of resilience and inconsistency.
The soldiers defeated Chitipa United 3-0 and Karonga United 1-0 in consecutive matches before the international break.
However, they fell 1-0 away to Mighty Tigers in their final outing before the pause.
The 2016 champions sit eighth with 35 points from 25 matches and remain firmly in the race for a top-four finish.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Bullets carry a commanding record against Kamuzu Barracks, collecting 27 points from the last 11 meetings between the two teams.
Maule have not lost to KB since 2019, when the soldiers secured a narrow 1-0 win at Civo Stadium — the same venue that hosts Thursday’s encounter.
This season, Bullets have already registered two victories over the soldiers.
The first came in the league at Kamuzu Stadium, where Mponda’s men claimed a resounding 4-0 win.
The second was a hard-fought 2-1 triumph in the FDH Bank Cup, eliminating KB from the competition.
Despite this strong record, Bullets have not beaten Kamuzu Barracks away since 2022, with the last two league visits to Lilongwe ending in draws.
COACH’S THOUGHTS
Assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa expects a highly competitive afternoon and says the team understands what is required in Lilongwe.
“We are set for the game. We know for sure that it will be a tough game. We know Kamuzu Barracks as a good team, but we are ready for them.
“This time around, we know how important it is to face them at their backyard. The players are geared. We scored four goals past Civil Service United, and we believe we can also do it away from home.”
TEAM NEWS
Aaron Chilipa remains unavailable with the injury he sustained before the international break, which also ruled him out of Sunday’s win over Civil.
Goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba returns to the travelling squad after five weeks on the sidelines and has trained ahead of the trip to Lilongwe.
Chikumbutso Salima is fit and available after being withdrawn late on Sunday with a wrist concern.
The rest of the squad is fully fit and ready for Thursday’s assignment.
MATCH OFFICIALS
The match will be officiated by centre referee Godfrey Nkhakananga, assisted by Yohane Chiutika and Yonas Jonas.
