The People’s Team wraps up their Central Region TNM Super League fixtures with a trip to Aubrey Dimba Stadium on Sunday to face Creck Sporting Club.
Two days after a 2-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium, Peter Mponda’s men are fired up to finish the Central Region tour with another win and tighten their grip at the top of the table.
Creck Sporting will not make it easy, and a stern test awaits.
FORM GUIDE
We head into the match on the back of two straight wins — a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Civil Service United and a convincing 2-0 win against Kamuzu Barracks last Thursday.
The latter result saw The People’s Team reclaim first place in the Super League, overtaking Mighty Wanderers.
Bullets have 56 points from 24 games, scoring 52 goals and conceding 16. Remarkably, only three goals have been conceded away from home, giving Mponda confidence to secure maximum points in Mchinji.
Creck Sporting, meanwhile, are coming off a 1-0 home win against Karonga United, currently sitting 10th with 30 points from 24 games.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Sunday marks the fourth league meeting and sixth overall between these sides in Malawi football.
In the first meeting of 2024 at Civo Stadium, Creck came from behind to force a 1-1 draw. In the second round, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets edged Creck 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium, snatching a late winner after the opponents twice leveled.
This season, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets hammered Creck 4-1 in the league at Kamuzu Stadium and eliminated them from the Airtel Top 8 Cup with a 1-0 quarter-final second-leg win at Nankhaka Stadium (first leg 0-0).
History favours Maule, who have consistently come out on top in recent clashes.
TEAM NEWS
Bullets will be without Blessings Mpokera, who picked up a metatarsal fracture in Thursday’s victory over Kamuzu Barracks. The defender is expected to be out for up to six weeks.
Apart from Mpokera’s setback, the rest of the squad is fit and available, giving Peter Mponda strong options for the trip to Mchinji.
