FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves hammered Mighty Wanderers Reserves 4-0 in a dominant Blantyre mini-derby display at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Enos Hendeman’s first-half brace gave Bullets Reserves a commanding advantage before captain Francis Malikebu and Jazilu Bannet added second-half goals to complete a comprehensive victory for Henry Kabichi’s side.
The result extends our Reserves’ winning run in the SRFA FINCA Division One League, lifts us into second place and gives the junior Bullets local bragging rights in emphatic fashion.
Hendeman Puts Bullets In Control
Bullets started brightly and created the first openings, with Malikebu setting up Hendeman in the second minute, but his first-time effort drifted just wide.
Zaneel Jussab then whipped a cross into the box seven minutes later, but Kondwani Chaula’s header sailed over as the hosts continued to ask questions of the Wanderers defence.
The visitors threatened on the counter in the 11th minute, but Julius Banda produced a fine save to deny Chastry Kandiado’s header and turn the ball behind for a corner.
Bullets continued to press, winning two successive corners before Jussab unleashed a powerful effort from Malikebu’s delivery, but Wanderers cleared their lines.
The hosts carved out another opening in the 17th minute when Feston Botomani picked out Felix Jalasi’s run, but the wingback could not make the most of the opportunity.
Malikebu then combined with Jazilu Bannet as Bullets pressed forward again, but the move broke down before they could create a clear chance.
The breakthrough arrived in the 22nd minute.
Malikebu split the Wanderers defence with a superb pass, releasing Hendeman, who kept his composure to slot home and put Bullets in front.
The hosts doubled their advantage seven minutes later.
Malikebu whipped a dangerous cross into the box, and Hendeman rose highest to head the ball inside the near post from close range.
Hendeman almost completed his hat-trick in the 33rd minute when his effort struck the post as Bullets continued to dictate proceedings.
The midfielder was forced off with an injury in the 40th minute after an impressive first-half display, with Eustache Baraki taking his place.
Wanderers looked to respond before the break, but Banda produced another excellent save two minutes later to deny Amin Yusuf after the forward broke through with a dangerous effort.
Botomani was also forced off with an injury in the 44th minute, with Mtende Mayuni returning to action.
Bullets took their two-goal advantage into half-time.
Malikebu And Bannet Complete Derby Rout
Bullets Reserves resumed with a two-goal advantage and immediately went in search of a third.
Five minutes after the restart, Malikebu found it.
He exchanged passes with Chaula in a quick one-two before Chaula set him up, allowing the young Bullets skipper to drill a powerful finish into the far corner.
Six minutes later, Bullets had a fourth.
Bannet collected a pass from Banda, beat his marker and calmly finished from distance on the left flank to put the result beyond doubt.
Bullets continued to press for more, with Malikebu sending a dangerous cross across the face of goal in the 58th minute, but there was no teammate on hand to apply the finishing touch.
The hosts then came close to a fifth when an effort struck the post in the 65th minute, before Kabichi made a triple substitution, introducing Vincent Kampira, Duncan Kumbuyo and Limbitso Chimanjamanja for Yankho Phiri, Chaula and Limbani Manyamba.
Wanderers responded with a triple change of their own five minutes later as they looked to change the momentum of the derby.
Baraki was shown a yellow card in the 72nd minute for a foul before Banda comfortably collected a Wanderers corner delivered by Steve Pelemeza three minutes later.
Owen Dzombe replaced Kandiado in the 80th minute as the visitors made another change.
Bullets continued to threaten a fifth, with Kampira delivering a dangerous cross towards Chimanjamanja five minutes later, but Foster Milanzi reacted well to make the save.
Chisomo Kanjinga came on for Haroon Mpoto in the 87th minute as Wanderers made their final change.
Bullets remained dangerous in the closing stages, with Kampira combining with Malikebu to create another opening in the 90th minute, but the Wanderers defence cleared the effort.
Five minutes of added time were indicated before the referee brought the derby to a close, confirming a comprehensive 4-0 victory for Bullets Reserves.
The emphatic victory extends Kabichi’s side’s winning run and sees the junior Bullets claim Blantyre bragging rights in style.
The League Picture
The 4-0 victory has lifted Bullets Reserves into second place in the SRFA FINCA Division One League, with the result also strengthening their position in the race for top spot.
Bullets now have 31 points from 14 matches, three behind leaders Ekhaya Reserves, who have collected 34 points from 15 games. Liberty FC are third on 30 points from 15 matches.
The Wanderers rout also took Bullets’ goals tally to 27, four more than Ekhaya’s 23 despite the leaders having played one match more.
That extra match is significant because Bullets still have a game in hand against The Boyz following the postponement of their scheduled fixture.
A win in that outstanding match would take Bullets to 34 points — level with Ekhaya — and move them to the top of the 16-team league table on goal difference, allowing the Reserves to finish the first round at the summit.
The postponed fixture therefore represents more than a game in hand; it is an opportunity for Kabichi’s side to take control of the title race as the campaign reaches the halfway stage.
