FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Under-19 returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Extending Hope in the FCB Katswiri Under-19 League at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.
Blessings Lungu struck twice in the first half, opening the scoring in the eighth minute before doubling the advantage in the 28th.
Osman George completed the scoring in the 73rd minute as Yamikani Fodya’s side collected all three points.
Lungu Brace Puts Bullets In Control
Bullets came into the match after a week without a fixture, following their draw against Manchester Motors.
Fodya’s side started brightly and created two early openings, with Hopeson Nkhata heading narrowly wide before Lungu tested Extending Hope goalkeeper Joel Charles.
Prince Jamali delivered a corner in the sixth minute which found Nkhata, but the forward was unable to direct his effort on target.
The breakthrough arrived two minutes later.
Hassan Madula won possession and combined with George, who released Lungu through on goal. The forward made no mistake with the finish to put Bullets Under-19 ahead.
Bullets continued to control possession and threaten going forward.
George was played through by Madula in the 19th minute but sent his effort wide.
A minute later, Jamali picked out Madula, who found Blessings Masamba, but his effort also went wide.
Extending Hope made their first change in the 23rd minute, introducing Cosmas Paul for Peter Dzoole.
Bullets doubled their lead five minutes later.
George’s delivery found Kelvin Phiri, whose pass released Lungu inside the box, and the forward finished for his second of the afternoon.
Lungu had an opportunity to complete his hat-trick in the 34th minute after Madula was brought down by Charles inside the area.
The forward stepped up from the spot, but Charles made the save to keep the deficit at two.
Lungu was booked three minutes later as Bullets took a 2-0 advantage into the interval.
George Seals The Win
The second half began more evenly as Extending Hope looked for a way back into the contest.
The visitors won a corner in the 45th minute, but the resulting effort went over the bar before Willy Spencer replaced Ernest Sitolo two minutes later.
Bullets were forced into their first change in the 50th minute when Dickson Kameza replaced the injured Nkhata.
Gomezgani Maziya then sent a free-kick wide from just outside the box before Masamba headed clear from an Extending Hope corner at the other end.
The visitors made a double change in the 56th minute, with Austine Maulidi and Farooq Adam replacing Alpha Somanje and Francis Zacharia.
Bullets thought they had added a third three minutes later when Madula connected with Jamali’s free-kick, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Jamali went close from another free-kick in the 66th minute, sending his attempt wide.
Ahmad Ayami returned from injury two minutes later when he replaced Masamba and almost marked his introduction with a goal.
The substitute dispossessed Charles in the 69th minute but sent his effort narrowly wide of the open goal.
Bullets eventually found their third in the 73rd minute.
Kameza sent an inviting cross into the box for George, who finished to make it 3-0.
Esau Kumwenda and Justin Chipewa replaced Lungu and George two minutes later as Fodya’s side saw out the closing stages.
Kumwenda was booked in the 79th minute before Bullets completed the victory.
The result moved Bullets Under-19 to 25 points from 12 matches.
Mighty Wanderers Youth remained top after beating Manchester Motors 2-1 on Saturday, moving to 28 points from 12 matches.
Ekhaya Youth were second on 27 points from 11 games ahead of their Sunday fixture against Nyambadwe United.
Fodya Pleased With Response
Bullets Under-19 head coach Fodya was pleased with his side’s response and the progress made during the week leading into the match.
“It was a good performance, especially after the draw against Manchester Motors. We played well throughout the game, and the two first-half goals put us in a strong position.
“Scoring three goals and keeping a clean sheet are positives for us.
“The week without a game gave us time to work on the areas where we needed to improve, and we saw some of that progress today. We won, but there are still things we need to correct and improve.
“This result gives the boys confidence as we prepare for our next match.”
