New season kicks off with Charity Shield on Nov 14

The 2020/21 soccer season is scheduled to kick off next month with the Charity Shield that will see the top four teams – Nyasa Big Bullets, BE Forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles – facing off at a venue to be announced.

The Football Association Malawi (FAM) announced on Sunday that delayed football season in Malawi will resume on November 14 and will run to July 2021 after government gave a go-ahead to restart sports activities in the country following their suspension in March due to COVID-19.

“The season, which will commence with Elite competitions only, will run up to July 2021. The season opener will be the Charity Shield on 14-15 November 2020 and the Super League will kick off a week later. The full calendar will be released in due course,” reads a statement from FAM.

The games, to be played at designated venues, will start without fans due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The FA announced a couple of weeks ago that teams will resume training on Monday, 17th October 2020, with FAM’s guidance under expert medical advice from the Malawi Government.

With the rest of the squad expected to start training next Monday, Bullets has eight players that have been training with the national team.

The Flames are currently in Zambia set to face the Chipolopolo Boys in a strength-testing match on Wednesday before their next friendly meeting with Zimbabwe at the Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
