Gomezgani Chirwa becomes the latest Nyasa Big Bullets defender to be voted the Hubertus Clausius monthly top performer.
Chosen by Bullets fans as September’s Player of the Month, Chirwa inherits the prize from his fellow wingback, Precious Sambani, who set up a record of winning the award back-to-back in the months of July and August.
The overlapping defender was outstandingly involved in all four games The People’s Team played in the month of September.
He featured in both legs of the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League against Tanzanian Simba SC at home and away.
He was effective in his role in the 3-1 home victory Bullets registered over Red Lions. To wrap up his September displays, Chirwa scored a goal and got an assist in the 4-0 win in the Blantyre derby over Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at the Bingu National Stadium to secure a place in the FDH Bank Cup Final, which Bullets won on Sunday.
To win the POM award for September, Gomezgani earned 53% of the votes, edging out Antony Mfune, who got 44% in the second position and Ernest Petro became third with 3% of the total votes.
Chirwa arrived at Bullets in 2019 and has been worth every penny The People’s Team paid to sign him from Civil Service United. Winning this award serves to confirm his continuing rich contribution to the first team.
Bravo to Gomezgani Chirwa for earning his first Player of the Month award at the Bullets!
