Gomezgani Chirwa, Lloyd Aaron and Patrick Mwaungulu have been nominated for the Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month award for May.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets played four TNM Super League matches in May, winning one game and registering three draws. The defending champions scored four goals and conceded only two.
Despite our run in May taking us down to fourth position with 14 points, we had several outstanding players and the trio made the final cut as shortlisted by our technical team.
Here is a brief look at how the nominees fared in the just-ended month.
GOMEGZANI CHIRWA
The 27-year-old, who was switched to the central area of defence from his natural right-back position by Kalisto Pasuwa at the start of this campaign, featured in all four games we played in May with superb performances.
Our vice-captain has adapted well to his new role with his solid defending as a centre-half, especially against aggressive opposition. He has so far partnered comfortably with Collin Mujuru, Clyde Senaji and Nickson Nyasulu in Kalisto Pasuwa’s central position of the backline.
LLOYD AARON
His first nomination since joining us from Civil Sporting Club. The midfielder also featured in all the games that we played in May. Lloyd’s performances against Mzuzu City Hammers and Moyale Barracks saw Aaron winning the midfield battle and brought more stability in the middle of the park.
His passes, ball recoveries and movement when in possession caught the eyes of the technical panel to nominate him for the Player of the Month award.
The 21-year-old Malawi midfielder had a slow start to life at Bullets but he has now settled well to find his mark for the 2023 quadruple winners.
PATRICK MWAUNGULU
Just like Chirwa and Aaron, the 22-year-old nifty midfielder also played in all four games and with super versatility, he found the back of the net three times out of the four goals we scored in May.
Mwaungulu, who was also nominated for the April award won by Mujuru, struck our equalizing goals in our 1-1 draws against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Mafco FC. He provided an assist for Chawanangwa Gumbo’s opener against Mzuzu City Hammers, before beating Lucky Tizola with an excellent finish direct from a corner kick to earn us a 2-0 victory at Kamuzu Stadium.
The 2023 TNM Super League Player of the Season was unfortunate not to finish off Moyale as his passing accuracy found our strikers who were unlucky to convert the chances that he created against the Mzuzu-based soldiers. He has been in top form and his nomination is well deserved.
