Heston Munthali remains confident FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are moving in the right direction despite Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Moyale Barracks in the FDH Bank Premiership.
The People’s Team came from behind to rescue a point through George Chaomba’s stoppage-time equaliser at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium, a result that marked a fourth successive draw in the league.
While disappointed not to collect maximum points, the Bullets caretaker coach believes the performance offered encouraging signs and is convinced the results will come if his side continues playing with the same intensity and commitment.
“We are disappointed not to have won the game, but I must commend how the boys played. They showed hunger and determination to win, and that gives us plenty of positives to take forward.”
Bullets created a number of opportunities throughout the contest, particularly in the opening half, but were unable to make their dominance count before falling behind to Lucky Mkandawire’s second-half goal.
Munthali pointed to Bullets’ attacking play as another reason for optimism, although he acknowledged the need for greater efficiency in front of goal.
“We created lots of goal-scoring chances mainly in the first half, but we missed. The way we played, I am convinced that things will get better because the plan worked. The only setback was our failure to convert chances into goals.”
Despite the recent run of draws, Munthali believes the team can quickly turn performances into results.
“We just need to go back to the drawing board and rectify the issues. That’s all. I believe we shall overcome.”
Munthali added that the coaching staff will continue working to improve the team ahead of the next assignment.
“As coaches, we will go back to the drawing board and fix this so that we can do better in the next match.”
The draw moved Bullets onto 10 points from six matches, leaving The People’s Team sixth in the FDH Bank Premiership and three points behind joint leaders Mighty Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles.
Following the international break, Bullets will turn their attention to the Airtel Top 8 Cup quarterfinal first leg against Ekhaya FC at Bingu National Stadium on 13 June.
