Blessings Mpokera delivered another commanding performance on Wednesday afternoon as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets battled to a narrow 1-0 win over Ekhaya FC at Kamuzu Stadium to maintain their position at the top of the TNM Super League.
The versatile defender was named Player of the Match for his standout display at the back—his third such accolade in the league this season—as The People’s Team secured a clean sheet and all three points in front of their home fans.
Speaking post-match, Mpokera expressed pride in both his personal performance and the collective effort from his teammates.
“I’m really proud of my performance today, and being named Player of the Match means a lot. It wasn’t just about me—everyone in the team stepped up. This award could’ve gone to any of us because we all gave everything.”
He added that the individual recognition is a source of motivation for both him and the entire squad:
“Anytime you get recognised like this, it pushes you to keep going. It’s not just a confidence boost for me, but it lifts the whole team. We’re working hard, we’re focused, and moments like this remind us why we do it.”
Having now claimed three Player of the Match awards this campaign, the 23-year-old says he’s still far from reaching his ceiling.
“This third award shows the effort I’m putting in week in, week out. I still have big goals, and to be honest, I feel like I’m just getting started. There’s so much more I want to achieve with this club.”
Wednesday’s victory was also notable for Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju, who made his 100th appearance in Bullets colours and marked the milestone with the winning goal—his 59th since joining the club in July 2021.
Babatunde’s milestone moment seals three points for Bullets
The result took Bullets to 27 points from ten matches, solidifying their place at the summit of the TNM Super League standings.
Meanwhile, Bullets’ next league fixture against Civil Service United—originally scheduled for Monday—has been postponed after eight players, including seven from the first team and one from the reserves, were called up to the Malawi national team. The Flames will face Botswana on Sunday, 6 July, at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe as part of the country’s 61st Independence Day celebrations.
