FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda lauded his side’s performance following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ekhaya FC in Wednesday’s TNM Super League encounter at Kamuzu Stadium.
The People’s Team controlled the contest from the first whistle, dominating possession and dictating the pace. After a goalless first half, the breakthrough arrived in the second period through Babatunde Adepoju, who marked his 100th appearance for the club with his 59th goal in Bullets colours.
Reacting after the final whistle, Mponda expressed satisfaction with both the result and the team’s overall display.
“The first half was evenly contested, but after the break, we really took control by keeping the ball and limiting their chances. Full credit to the boys for a spirited and disciplined performance. We managed the game well and deserved the win,” he said.
While Bullets kept another clean sheet, Mponda was quick to downplay Ekhaya’s offensive threat.
“It wasn’t so much about defensive brilliance—we just weren’t tested. Their only chance came from a set piece. Apart from that, they offered very little going forward. We stayed composed and they couldn’t find a way through.”
The coach also cautioned against premature title talk, urging patience as the season unfolds.
“It’s too early to discuss the title—we still have 20 games to go. Today’s win was important, but let’s assess the situation after 15 games. There’s still a long road ahead.”
Bullets are not expected back in domestic action until after the Malawi Independence Day international friendly against Botswana. Our Super League fixture against Civil Service United, initially scheduled for Monday, will be rescheduled.
Following the national team engagement, attention will shift to the Airtel Top 8 Cup final against Silver Strikers, set for 12th July at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
