Victory First, Recognition Later — Babatunde reflects on POTM

Matchday 9 of the 2025 TNM Super League saw FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to Kamuzu Stadium with a commanding 3-0 win over Moyale Barracks, a result that lifted The People’s Team back to the summit of the standings.

Forward Babatunde Adepoju played a starring role in the first half, providing two assists before being named Player of the Match—his second such recognition in league action this season.

He featured only in the opening 45 minutes as part of head coach Peter Mponda’s planned rotation, with the technical panel making four halftime changes to manage squad fitness during a packed schedule.

Focus on the Team First

Speaking to club media after the match, the Nigerian attacker expressed joy at contributing to the win while emphasizing that individual honours come second to team success.

“It always feels good to be named Player of the Match, but what’s more important is the team winning,” said Babatunde.
“This was a big result for us, and I’m happy to have played my part in helping the team get all three points.”

Assists Over Goals? No Problem.

Now with six goals in nine Super League matches, Babatunde is among the frontrunners in the early Golden Boot race. But despite not scoring on the afternoon, the forward wasn’t concerned.

“I’m not worried about the goals today. Assisting is just as important,” he said. “We’re all working towards one goal—getting Bullets back to the top, where we belong.”

Top of the Table Again

Wednesday’s result saw Bullets climb back to first place with 24 points from eight wins and one loss, now two points ahead of rivals Mighty Wanderers, who have a game in hand.

“We know what’s at stake this season,” Babatunde added. “Everyone is focused. Whether it’s scoring or creating, I just want to help us reach our goal.”
