George Chaomba struck deep into stoppage time as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets rescued a late 1-1 draw against Moyale Barracks in Sunday’s FDH Bank Premiership encounter at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium in Mwanza.
The forward capitalised on a goalkeeping error in the fifth minute of added time to earn The People’s Team a share of the spoils after Lucky Mkandawire’s second-half header had put the visitors on course for victory.
The result moved Bullets onto 10 points from six matches and preserved their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
It also ensured Heston Munthali avoided defeat in his first match in charge as caretaker coach.
Kajoke Threatens Early
Bullets made an encouraging start and came close to breaking the deadlock inside the opening exchanges.
Hassan Kajoke raced clear after getting the better of his marker, but goalkeeper Jeremiah Simfukwe reacted quickly to clear the danger before the striker could apply the finishing touch.
Kajoke was involved again moments later, testing Simfukwe with a low effort as the hosts looked to establish early control of the contest.
Moyale responded with attacking intent of their own and gradually grew into the game.
Oblen Khumbula’s deliveries from wide areas caused problems for the Bullets defence, while Lesman Singini came close with a powerful effort that drifted narrowly wide of Innocent Nyasulu’s upright.
Moyale Miss Big Chance
The visitors squandered a golden opportunity on 33 minutes.
Khumbula’s cross found Lucky Mkandawire completely unmarked inside the penalty area, but the forward blasted over the crossbar from close range with the goal at his mercy.
Bullets nearly punished that miss before the interval when Kajoke produced a moment of individual brilliance, dribbling past three defenders before being denied by Simfukwe.
The two sides went into the break level at 0-0.
Mkandawire Breaks the Deadlock
Moyale made their pressure count ten minutes into the second half.
A corner from the right found Mkandawire unmarked inside the penalty area and the striker headed beyond Nyasulu to hand the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Falling behind forced Bullets to chase the game for the first time in the afternoon.
Munthali Turns to the Bench
Munthali responded on the hour mark by introducing Mike Mkwate, Ephraim Kondowe and Mischek Billiat in place of Kajoke, Clever Kalambo and Madalitso Safuli.
The changes injected fresh energy into the hosts’ attacking play.
Billiat immediately provided a dangerous outlet down the right flank, while Kondowe’s movement and direct running gave Moyale’s defence a different challenge to contend with.
Bullets continued to push forward and almost found a breakthrough when Simfukwe fumbled Billiat’s dangerous cross, but no player in red was able to capitalise on the loose ball.
Mkwate also delivered a series of set pieces into the penalty area as the pressure on the visitors continued to grow.
Chawanangwa Gumbo was later introduced for Paul Master as Bullets committed more bodies forward in pursuit of an equaliser.
Chaomba Rescues a Point
As the match entered eight minutes of added time, Moyale appeared set to leave Mwanza with all three points.
However, Bullets found a way back.
A costly mistake by Simfukwe handed Bullets a lifeline. Kondowe reacted quickest to the loose ball before squaring for Chaomba, who calmly slotted home from close range to spark celebrations around Joyce Chitsulo Stadium.

The drama was not over.
Moments later, Moyale defender Chisomo Chiwanda was shown a second yellow card and subsequently sent off as tempers flared during the closing stages.
There was no time left for either side to find a winner as referee Cedrick Mwachumu brought an entertaining contest to an end.
The result leaves Bullets sixth on the FDH Bank Premiership table with 10 points from six matches.
The People’s Team remain unbeaten this season with two victories and four draws, while Mighty Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles share top spot on 13 points.
