FCB Nyasa Big Bullets regained the top spot in the TNM Super League with a commanding 3-0 victory over Moyale Barracks on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.
The midweek fixture came just four days after The People’s Team booked their spot in the Airtel Top 8 final. Having briefly lost top position to Mighty Wanderers, Peter Mponda’s men responded in style, with goals from Chikumbutso Salima, Sean McBrams, and Chawanangwa Gumbo sealing the win in front of a home crowd.
First-Half Dominance
Mponda made several changes to his starting XI, including a first competitive start for Zambian left back Dominic Musonda and a return in goal for Innocent Nyasulu, who replaced Richard Chimbamba.
Bullets started on the front foot, nearly scoring in the 6th minute through Lloyd Aaron. The breakthrough came moments later as Babatunde Adepoju beat his marker and delivered a low cross to Chikumbutso Salima, who calmly slotted past MacDonald Simfukwe for the opener.
The visitors, unsettled, made an early tactical change in the 26th minute, but Bullets doubled their lead in the 37th. Babatunde, once again the provider, beat two defenders and laid it on a plate for Sean McBrams, who made it 2-0 at the break.
Second-Half Control
Despite Moyale coming out stronger after the restart, Bullets defended resolutely, with Blessings Mpokera marshalling the backline brilliantly.
Mponda’s men pushed for more, with Banda testing Simfukwe from a free kick, while Nyasulu stayed alert to deny Charles Nkhoma at the other end.
The moment of the match came in the 78th minute. On his birthday, substitute Gumbo was released by Yamikani Mologeni and unleashed a powerful long-range strike that was to hot for Simfukwe to cap off a dominant performance.
Bullets comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to seal their eighth win in nine league games.
Back on Top
The result sees The People’s Team return to the top of the TNM Super League table with 24 points, two ahead of second-placed Mighty Wanderers, who have a game in hand.
What’s Next
Bullets now head to Lilongwe for the FCB 30th Anniversary Match against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday.
They will then resume league duties with a midweek clash against Ekhaya FC next Wednesday.
