Munthali hails 2nd half character in Bullets Reserves victory

Bullets Reserves maintained their place at the top of the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League following a hard-fought 2-0 victory over third-placed Immigration FC at Chilomoni Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After a goalless and scrappy first half in which both sides found it difficult to settle into a rhythm, Head Coach Heston Munthali credited his team’s second-half improvement to tactical discipline and key halftime adjustments.

“We knew this would be a tough match,” said Munthali. “Immigration are a strong side, and the pitch made it difficult for us to play our usual passing game in the first half. But after making a few changes and speaking to the boys at halftime, we started to attack more and played with purpose.”

The changes paid off.

In the 57th minute, Misheck Billiat broke the deadlock with a composed finish before substitute Francis Malikebu sealed the win with the second goal late in the half, ensuring all three points returned to Blantyre.

The result keeps Bullets Reserves firmly on top of the standings with 19 points from eight matches, continuing their unbeaten start to the 2024 campaign.

“This is a morale-boosting win, especially with matches coming thick and fast,” Munthali added.

“It’s encouraging to see the boys apply what we work on in training. This is a new group, and they’re already showing great understanding and discipline.”

Focus Shifts to Nsanje United

The team will now quickly return to training to prepare for their next fixture — a midweek clash against Nsanje United at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday. The match will serve as a curtain-raiser to the senior team’s TNM Super League encounter with Moyale Barracks.

“We go straight back to work,” said Munthali. “Wednesday will bring another challenge, but if the boys maintain this level of focus and effort, we’ll be ready.”

With momentum building and confidence high, Bullets Reserves continue to show why they are strong contenders for this year’s title.
