Jazil Bannet scored twice as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves produced a dominant display to defeat Chilomoni FC 5-1 in the SRFA FINCA Division One League at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Bullets established a two-goal cushion before half-time and never looked back, adding three more after the restart to complete another commanding display.
Bannet opened the scoring before Kondwani Chaula doubled the advantage prior to the interval. Limbitso Chimanjamanja extended the lead shortly after the restart before Richard Salima briefly reduced the deficit for the visitors.
The hosts, however, responded emphatically as Bannet completed his brace before substitute Alex White added a fifth to seal Bullets Reserves’ third consecutive league victory.
The victory also marked Bullets Reserves’ successful return to Kamuzu Stadium after consecutive away wins over Nchima United and QPL All Stars, extending their winning run to three league matches.
Bullets rewarded for early dominance
Bullets settled into the contest confidently, controlling possession and moving the ball with purpose as they searched for an early breakthrough.
The hosts threatened in the 12th minute when Kondwani Chaula found Bannet inside the penalty area, but the forward’s effort drifted wide of the target.
Their positive start was rewarded three minutes later.
Vincent Kampira delivered an inviting cross into the box and Bannet timed his run perfectly to guide the ball home for the opening goal.
Chilomoni attempted to respond midway through the half and won a corner in the 27th minute, but Francis Malikebu was alert to clear the danger before the visitors could create a meaningful opportunity.
Bullets doubled their advantage just a minute later through another well-worked move.
Kampira released Malikebu down the left before the winger delivered an excellent cross into the six-yard area for Chaula to finish confidently and make it 2-0.
The hosts continued to dictate the tempo.
Kondwani Tebulo fired wide after being picked out by Chaula, while Malikebu threatened from a free-kick and Kampira remained influential with his deliveries from set-pieces as Bullets carried a deserved two-goal advantage into half-time.
Chimanjamanja, Bannet and White complete commanding victory
Bullets resumed with the same attacking intent after the restart and Kabichi introduced Duncan Kumbuyo, Limbitso Chimanjamanja and Alex White in the 53rd minute as the hosts looked to maintain their intensity.
The triple substitution paid immediate dividends.
White made an immediate impact from the bench, combining neatly with teammates before Chimanjamanja applied the finish in the 58th minute.
Chilomoni responded four minutes later through Richard Salima, who won possession before calmly slotting beyond the goalkeeper to reduce the deficit.
The visitors’ goal briefly lifted their spirits, but Bullets quickly regained complete control.
Bannet grabbed his second of the afternoon in the 76th minute after collecting an excellent pass from Malikebu before finishing confidently beyond the goalkeeper.
Three minutes later, White crowned an impressive substitute appearance.
Malikebu initiated another attacking move before Tebulo threaded an excellent pass into White’s path, allowing the forward to finish confidently and make it 5-1.
Bullets continued to push for more during the closing stages.
Malikebu struck the crossbar with a superb free-kick before White missed another opportunity after once again being set up by the impressive winger.
The final whistle confirmed another commanding performance from Bullets Reserves as they made it three consecutive league victories.
Kabichi pleased with victory but demands continued growth
Bullets Reserves coach Henry Kabichi praised his players after watching them put into practice the work they had focused on throughout the week in training, while acknowledging his side needed time to settle into the contest.
“First of all, let me congratulate the boys for the win today. They have executed what we have been doing in training this week.
It was a good game. We started at a low pace, but after getting the momentum, we controlled the game and managed to get two goals in the first half.”
Despite the convincing scoreline, Kabichi insisted there is still significant room for improvement as the club continues to prioritise player development over results.
“Yes, we have won, but as coaches we still have a lot of work to do. We need to help the players to be on the right track and keep encouraging and supporting them because we see good things from them.”
The coach challenged his players to build on the performance by correcting their mistakes and maintaining the same commitment in the weeks ahead.
“Now we need to focus on working on our mistakes and prepare for the next game.”
The victory extended Bullets Reserves’ winning run to three matches in the SRFA FINCA Division One League, with Kabichi’s young side continuing to build momentum as they pursue results while developing the club’s next generation of talent.
